I don't stand a chance do I?

I am 30, 3 young children, married for 10 years. I married young and had my children. I now want to go ahead and have a career and medicine (GP) is what I want to do.

I can only apply to Liverpool and their GCSE requirements I do not meet at all.

These are the qualifications I have, I don't stand a chance at all do I? should I just give up now and go for another career?

GCSE

B History
C English Lang
C English Lit
C Media Studies
C Maths
DD Science Double Award
D French
E Art

K100 Open University Health & Social Care Level 1 60 point course which I did last year.

I know I need to do further studies, Liverpool didn't give me any help when I contacted them but deep down I know I am thinking I just don't have what it takes do I?

I would suggest trying to find out if Liverpool accepts access courses, which may or may not be offered by your local college(s). It seems quite a few medical schools will now consider these type of qualifications as redemptions/top-ups on your GCSE/A level results.

You're definitely not too old yet, so don't give-up. There are more options available to you then you might think.

Have you heard about their widening access course? You might meet the requirements for that.

Access to Medicine and Dentistry Programme

Sounds perfect for you.

Never give up. If you start off telling yourself you don't stand a chance there's no reason why anyone should give you a chance.

Thank you both very much.

I enquired to Carmel College and they said I still needed the GCSEs at B or above so I guess if I get those I could then apply for next year, 2009/2010 entry?

i got in on an access course....and a few other students have as well.....so it is possible
it can sound daunting when you think you have to resit things but time passes quickly so a year to retake GCSEs is not that bad then you could apply for the carmel course
you can also get your work experiencr while you are sitting the GCSEs so you are well prepared for the interview
