Somewhere to take chemistry AS/A2 exams as private candidate ?
Hi
Have read a few previous posts and it seems to be an absolute nightmare to find an exam centre willing to accept private candidates to take the Chemistry AS/A2 exams - namely because of the practical exams.
I have tried many of the local schools in my area (Bristol), and they will only accept private candidates for written exams - not the practicals.
So my question is, has anyone successfully found anywhere in the past that let them take all the exams, including the practicals, as a private candidate? Even if it involves travelling a fair distance I will be happy just to find somewhere.
Any advice much appreciated ! Thanks

I would contact the exam board to find out. For instance, if you are looking to take Chemistry (Edexcel) you could get in touch with them over the phone to ask. I reckon this is probably the most efficient method.

I called several dozen colleges in London and none of them would let me sit the exam as an external candidate. The only place I found that would let me was Oxford International College - GCSE and A-Level preparatory courses for entry into British universities or other higher education institutions.

I did the AS/A2 chemistry as an evening class student enrolled at a college, have you considered that? Bear in mind the syllabus is changing soon- I don't know how much of an impact that will have on this, if anything.
Anyway aside from my waffling, I did the course at Hammersmith College

Thanks for the replies everyone. Originally I did look into attending evening classes at college but the course at my local college was fully booked, leading me to consider self-studying.
Mad Max, out of interest, do you remember what the fees they charged you for taking the exams at Oxford International College ? I contacted them and they said they would be able to accommodate me, but have yet to get back to me with a price.
Hopefully will have this sorted soon as I'm aware that the deadline for entry into the January exams is coming up fast.
Thanks again !

Don't sweat it kiddo. Work hard and you'll probably do well enough. Some universities place emphasis on GCSEs, whilst others don't. If you don't do too well in your GCSEs then simply avoid the universities take them into account. Also you will have to make sure you do well in your A levels, but even then, not doing well enough wont necessarily signal the end of your ambitions to become a doctor, as graduate entry is always an option.
There's really not much advice to give other than study hard.
