I understand where your coming from here.

The thought of me being a student when all my counterparts will be well into their careers with mortgages and stuff, does worry me.

However, I quickly think back to my motives behind wanting to do medicine, and all my worries go away!

Which isn't too bad, but it's like, I'd much rather be 25 at absolute latest when it comes to getting my life underway.

I don't know why I care so much, my sister only just started a proper job working for the met this year at the age of 26 too.

Guess it serves me right for being so lazy the first time round. Made things a reet hassle for myself.
I would not put too much pressure on yourself,

You will only be 25/26 as a newly qualified doctor! Your still in your twenties! Your still young!

Unfortunately, life throws many hurdles at you and can set you back. So, in regards to "getting your life underway" it wont always go plain sailing. Some of your friends will have setbacks, divorce change jobs e.t.c So, dont be too hard on yourself.

I will be about 28/29 on qualifying. Starting my chosen career at nearly 30! Yet, I know some people that are 40+ and still have no idea what they want to do with their life! Also, I would rather "go for it " and work towards something that I really love, then to do something else just because its considered the "norm " or what everyone else is doing.

There are people in their 50s who start medicine. I am not going to consider myself truly mature just yet. I am glad that I found out what I really want to be doing with my life sooner rather than later.

I am currently studying as GEP at St George's and one of my fellow students has just joined at age 42. My dad, who is a consultant in obstetrics, has a colleague who started medicine at age 38 (having previously been a salesman for PC world) and has now just got his first consultant post at age 55. I remember going to an interview course last year where one of the participants was a retired judge, who was 60, and wanted to enter medical school to become a coroner. I can't remember which school he was applying for but he got rejected and had threatened to sue them for age discrimination. Can you imagine if he 'd gone in! He would be a consultant at age 75 or something like that!
