Department of health bursary and dependent student status
Hi,
Based upon the fee cap being removed in 2010 I am looking into applying for 2009 entry. However I have a few questions about the bursary available from the DoH. Basically as I am 21 I would be classed as a dependent student, however my parents have divorced. For my student finance because I have lived with my mum mainly, they only took my mum’s salary into account. However as I am now living at a different address to both my mum and my dad I am unsure as to if they take both parents salaries. In my parents eyes I am an adult now and I really doubt they will give me any support and my father probably over the set threshold.
So any advice?

As your parents are divorced they will only take into account one of their salaries, usually the one you live with or in your case lived with ie your mum. As to being 21, unless you can prove that you have financially been independent for the last 3 years (according to student finance company) you are unfortunately considered dependent on your mother (even if you are no longer living under her roof). Proof of financial dependence is through the last three years P60's or wage slips. Hope that helps!

what emma has said is correct, i have just managed to convince the slc company that im independant of my parents, i have to provide them wage slip, p60's council tax bills plus a letter from work to confirm that i have been employed on a fulll time basis, not an easy task, just hoping now they will give me more money
