This is news to me so thought I would spread the word to all prospective applicants:
Leicester GEP always wanted a health related degree for the GEP but have now extended this to include any degree (as long as it is a 2.1 or better) in addition to significant experience:
A101(Graduate entry for Health Sciences graduates) MBChB
Applications are welcomed from graduates of any discipline who have an upper second class honours degree and significant experience of working in a caring role. Arts and Humanities graduates are encouraged to apply.
I saw this and had them on my list of potential unis.
I have a no healthcare degree, have worked in a GP's practice for the last 4 years and have worked at an HCA since last year.
However, they define significant experience of working in a caring role as a minimum one year full time paid employment in a caring role. Thats me out then!
So effectively they take people who've worked in hospitals etc for over a year, but reject people who are "non-medical"
Its sad really as there's no denying that non-medical people (even if you require work experience etc) often have a large set of useful skills that are important in a medical context.
Its no real difference from their previous "healthcare related degrees only" as largely its the same people who will be able to apply.
Arts and Humanities graduates are only accepted if they take a year out of education/employment to get the necessary years work in a caring role.
I'm not bitter really, I just would have liked to be able to apply there
I want to apply there too for Sept 2009. I have applied for 4 full time jobs at my local hospitals, so hopefully I get something and will have the work experience to support my application
The only thing I was concerned about was, if I start work in May for example and apply in Oct that won't give me the full year, even though I would have a full year by Sept 09, so I have emailed the uni to see if I could still be accepted on the condition that I complete a years work experience.
I have applied to Leicester. I have a BSc but not really a life/health science degree.
I have been looking into healthcare assistant jobs. On my application it states my volunteering on the wards after many months of helping out at the radio station which also did involve talking to lots of patients. I have been doing this for about 5 months now (on the wards) but this doesn't really involve care work nor employment as such. I talk, listen and run errrands. I have lots of previous work experience in hospitals and have tonnes of experience dealing with the public (over 5 years).
So I guess I am out?
By the looks of other reapplicants it seems retaking the ukcat can cause your score to jump 50 points. So we should be fine reapplying to warwick next year. It's just annoying we have to wait another...
He apologized but I really should have! So far I've only heard about rejections probably means they are giving out their offers later. Imperial was kind of my first choice because it's very good and...
