Deferred Entry for Grad Applicants - Is it possible?
Hi there,
Are there any grad med students or 'would be grad medics' out there who can give me any info regarding graduate applicants applying for deferred entry? I am currently working as a Research Physiotherapist whilst also studying for my PhD. Having been unsuccessful in obtaining a place at Medical School 3 years ago, I am trying again this September (applying 2008 for 2009 entry), with a few more qualifications under my belt and credentials to my name. However, there have been discussions within my work place regarding me going out to New Zealand to work on sabbatical with a Falls Research Team. I am very interested in taking up this offer as I feel it is an opportunity I can't turn down, however my ultimate goal is medical school without a shadow of a doubt. I am very interested in pursuing a career in Clinical Gerontology, so this experience would be very useful. Can anyone provide me with some information as to whether deferred entry for graduates is possible and has anyone done so and been successful in receiving offers.

You'd probably have to contact the individual medical schools directly to be sure.
I think you should seriously consider going on the sabbatical even if they won't. It sounds like it would be a great asset to your CV when applying for medical jobs as well as an interesting experience.
True, realistically. But you never know. Probably some one will drop out next week, but the chances are not all of us will make it and possibly just even one or two.. you never know though, you have...
That's all it is :( We might not get a shot at medicine because there's somebody else who can fit shapes into patterns a tiny bit better than us. Oh well...I don't want to give up hope, but...
it's pretty ridiculous when you think about it. That test does not determine if you will make a good doctor or be able to get thru medical school. It's just a selection tool sadly for us in the...
