Kings Open day for GEP/5 Year
Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me!
I wasn't able to go the kings open day for medicine GEP (or 5 year) as I was based out of the country.
How important do you think it is to have attended? I've read the prospectus and done loads of research into the course/history etc but am wondering if I will get penalised for not actually being at an open day... any ideas?
If anyone could give me a rough idea of what was covered that would be marvellous...
a thousand thanks!

I doubt very much that you would get penalised for not going to an open day. Universisties accept that not everyone can make the one day they have a year and as long as you are aware of the course requirements, what the study of medicine involves etc, what this course is about then frankly I think it won't make a difference.
At the end of the day, if you attend an interview at Kings they are going to be interested in you as a person and what you can offer as a student/prospective doctor, not whether you can tell them what they did at the open day.
The idea of the open day is to visit the place, get a feel for the uni and the course and essentially obtain more information and ask questions. Personally I can't see that it makes a difference.
That's my view anyhow, I will now wait to be contradicted!

They might have another one soon for the 2009 applicants? If the interviews are held quite late then you might be able to squeeze it in...
Now holding out for 2010 entry owing to financial disaster and general incompetence
One of these days...

Out of curiosity, any graduates apply to the 5year and heard anything at all? Have they said anything about when to expect any news from them (interviews, rejections or otherwise)? I haven't heard a sausage (except from a man in admissions to clarify some of my grades) and just wondering if anyone else has yet.

ekivell & Vicotria09, thanks for your replies. I've checked the kings website and don't think there will be any more open days before the GEP interview dates at the end of January... oh well, I'll just have to blow them away with my knowledge of the type of brick used to build Kings or something and hope they don't directly ask whether I attended an open day!
I see on the website you can do a self-guided tour of the campus but you have to contact guys admissions and I'm worried that they'll know for sure then that I didn't attend an open day!! What do you think?
Oh, and can you remember what dates the open days were on by the way or how many there were? I know there was one in May I couldn't attend...
And, bubblepop, from reading the other threads I don't think any graduates applying for the 5 year at Kings or Barts have heard anything yet.
No news is good news (must stay positive!)

I really don't think your non attendance at the open day is an issue. When I applied for my first degree I had a few interviews, I did not go to any of the open days as I was unavailable. Nonetheless I got offers from all the unis.
What a univesity is interested in is you, your skills, your motivation and what you can bring to the uni, not you being able to recite what may have been said at an open day or the history of Kings etc. The open days are there for you to view the place (you may not like it), ask questions on an informal basis and find out more about the course.
I think you may be worrying a little too much about the fact you didn't go, if you have an interview - be yourself and show them why you want to be a doctor!
Good luck

you're right... I was just thinking that they could hold anything against you, esp when the competition for places is so high.
But I will breathe deeply, not stress about it anymore and enjoy the fact it's a Friday afternoon
