Is that maybe gender related though?

As a male student nurse, people often refer to me as doctor, because they see male and think doctor, similarly when they see female they think nurse...

Yes it is. But if I routinely went around calling myself a 'student doctor', that wouldn't happen. That's the point I was trying to make about 'medical student'. To some patients it is a bit ambiguous.

Haha, well good luck! Not even a nurse's uniform and a big name badge seem to help my problems!

LOL - unless you decide to become a doctor! Are you considering re-applying to medicine after your degree?

I think I might switch to student doctor when I go back to clinicals after my intercalated degree. After all, I'll nearly be there!

Ive said to a few of my mates that im going to be a medical student and that im going to medical school. And a few of them have turned around and said erm... i thought you were already a nurse (im a staff nurse), and then i have to explain...... I think ill stick to Student Doctor, i was labeled as student nurse during my nurse training, i think it shows a bit more clarity as to why you are intruding on their consultation.

Well thats my opinio anyway im sure many people have many other opinions too.........

That's kind of how I feel: saying I'm a student doctor always makes me feel slightly uncomfortable because I do think that some patients take it to mean the same thing as junior doctor and assume that I am a qualified doctor. I don't like referring to myself as any kind of doctor until I actually am one.

That said, I've been amazed by the number of people that think 'medical student' means I'm training to be a nurse. Medical student seems to be the most common term in use where I am, though, and that's what I introduce myself as.

I think I'd go for, 'I'm a student', hopefully that should lead on to, 'Oh, what are you studying?' (Interactive baby), then you can humbly say that you are training to become....

I'm a doc already (Chem Ph.D), and I'm curious to see how tutors will address me when I start in Sept; when I was called up for interview they addressed me as Doc. More often than not, I find it embarrassing when people call me Dr., but then I don't really like Mr. either.

Some much emphasis on titles but where's the content....
