Anyways, looking for advice on what u believe my chances or whether you can offer advice as to what to do next.
I'm 24 yr old graduate from Glasgow with a 2:1 Hons in Accounting, Scottish Highers as AAABBBB and C in Chemistry (no other science qualifications bar a 1 in Standard Grade Credit Chemistry). Obviously I didn't know i was gonna do medicine later or would have put more in at chemistry cos i already had the grades for accounting blah blah blah.
I can really only stay in Scotland due to finances/affordability so options to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Do you think I should apply to 5 year courses? 6 year courses? Sit Highers in Chemistry and Biology and get loadsa work experience in (which i'm in midst of doing properly)
There's also the option of an Access Course in Stow College which is only recognised (i believe) by Glasgow but i may be too late for that, and in meantime i could increase my acceptability for Edinburgh by doing Highers What do you think?
and, what do you propose for work experience? I've 3 days organised for hospital work experience, arranging permanent w/e experience in a care home and may also get some auxillary nursing in there or volunteering?
Call the universities, send them your info on qualifications and ask what their advice would be re qualifications and which courses to apply for (if you're staying in Scotland, there are more options than glasgow and Edinburgh unless you are particularly limited geographically.)
The unis themselves (all of them) will give you the best indication as to what they will want from you.
As for work experience, as said before, any kind of caring experience, teaching summer schools, volunteering at old people's home, summer respite for the disabled. May be even a hospital portering job or something that exposes you to teh hospital environment - use your imagination, most jobs/volunteering will teach you something relevant in some way to a medical career.
Definitely a good idea to get in touch with the places you're interested in and see what they say. You'll usually find people pretty helpful if you call them and explain your situation. Dundee does a nice 6 year course if your highers/A-levels aren't what they want them to be, and it's the best medical school in Scotland.......
Ok, I'm a bit biased. But there's no reason you shouldn't be able to apply successfully to a medicine course in Scotland - I got in with no Chemistry since a GCSE back in the day and a degree in English Lit.........
Oh, sorry to everyone on the waiting list :( That's rubbish!
Out of interest people who were rejected from Imperial, did they email to inform you or did you find out via Track?
Hi all,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I emailed Warwick today to say that economics was still on their list of acceptable degrees and got this back:
"Thank you for your email. Should...
GCSE/A level results have NO CORRELATION with whether youll do well in medical school :) It's to do with your motivation to be a doctor, doing well, and having good clinical skills (which they dont...

The most annoying thing is that the selection centre always used to be later in the year, so other unis had a chance to give out offers first. If they'd done that this year, some of the rest of us...
