Graduate Fees Petition

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, the DFES has recently announced that graduates starting on medical courses from 2006 will not be eligible for a student loan to cover their tuition fees. We believe that this decision will mean that many graduate applicants will not be able to afford to study medicine. We have therefore been working with the BMA medical students committee (MSC) to create an online petition to oppose this decision. If you feel that graduates should be eligible for a loan to cover their fees, please visit the link below and sign the petition. Please forward this link to anyone you think might support us.

(Sorry if you have read this on the other thread, but we thought it should be posted separately too, to make sure everyone sees it).

Many thanks

Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who has signed so far. We have had a fantastic response with literally hundreds of people signing over the last few days.

We need to make sure that all applicants are aware of this problem and so please help to spread the word and get more signatures.

Thanks again,

MSO

Terrifying!

HI Guys,
This proposal to charge tuition fees for all graduate applicants is a terrible prospect and will create a barrier to many of us matures/grads going to med school. If you feel the same PLEASE sign the petition on the link below.
http://www.medschoolsonline.co.uk/index.
Many current Med students have already lodged their protest and its backed by the BMA.

hope this is'nt already in some other thread that I've missed !

why not ask Tony Blair why he lied to us about top up fees (in their white paper they said that top up fees "would not be payable upfront")

Why not e-mail Bill Rammell, the higher education minister...

Dear Sir,

I was intrigued by a quote from you in today’s guardian;

“Medical students who study for a second undergraduate degree can apply for the full rate maintenance loan for the first four years of their course - potentially £6,170 a year"
http://society.guardian.co.uk/health...670716,00.html

Does this also mean that mature students who already have a degree will be eligible to apply for a loan to cover their fees or will they be expected to come up with £3,000 per year up front. If this is the case, then the government is giving with one hand and taking away half of it with the other. How they expect a medical student to survive on £3170 per year is beyond me. This works out at £264 per month. University self catering flats in Leeds for example are £274.72. This means a student will have minus £10.72 per week to live on. How can this be possible under a ‘Labour’ government?

Thanks in advance,
yournamehere

I know grads are not supposed to get a loan for fees but my loan forms came throught the other day and it look like I have a loan for living and for fees, the full £3000. Say one thing do another?
