GEP and Five Yr course at same Uni
Im going to apply to medicine this year (this year being my final year of physics)
Does anyone have any advice on applying to a GEP and a Five Year Programe at the same uni? Is it ok and what do the uni's think?
Thanks

I'm not sure what the other unis think, but since my other choices are Kings (where you get automatically considered for the 5-year when you apply for the GEP) and St George's (where I've used up my quota for GEP interviews already!) I'm hoping they won't be offended
Where are you thinking of applying?

It doesn't really matter *I think*, especially at bart's as the 2 departments (4 year and 5 year) are kept seperate.

I applied for St Georges GEP and 5 year course and got offers for both - they were dealt with separately and no mention of where I had applied was mentioned (I don't know if they even knew as they are dealt with by separate admissions people)

Hi,
Someone else doing/done physics, encouraging!
Thanks for the reply, good to know about applying for both courses.
Im not quite sure, thinking of applying to GKT GEP, Southampton GEP, and then two 5 year courses maybe cardiff and maybe 5 year at GKT, but you say that you are automatically considered for that anyway, right?.
So yea, thoses are my choices which avoid GAMSAT, but if i do the GAMSAT then i'll apply to Swansea GEP, St Georges GEP and 5 year course, and cardiff 5year.
So have you taken the gamsat previously or are you taking it this year?

cool, well done on the MSAT!
So you don't need GAMSAT to apply to St Geroges 5 year then?
Thanks,
(sorry i can't seem to find stuff like this on the unis websites)

Hi guys,
Just to let you know of some positive info with regard to applying to multiple courses at the same institute. I applied to Barts for both UG 5-yr and GEP courses and got offers from both...so it is possible.
Furthermore, with regard to Kings grad and 5-yr, they only consider you for 5-year if you reach the GEP interview stage but don't quite cut it for their 25places. As far as I'm aware they don't look at your application for the 5-yr if you don't come in the top 125 MSAT applicants of the 1000+ applying to Kings for grad.
Hope this helps,
Ruth

thanks ruth,
Yea, i just looked at the kings website, they say they don't even look at your personal statement, just your MSAT score, they even don't have it when they interview you. Quite a different approach to other unis, where they partly base your interview on your PS. Well its a different way in, better start practicing the MSAT then i guess

St George's website keeps breaking at the moment with coldfusion errors, otherwise I'd paste the relevant bit in, but basically no, you don't need GAMSAT for the five year. You need three A-levels including Chemistry, and a 2.i, to apply as a Graduate. This is broadly similar to other 5-year course requirements at other places.
