Hi,

I have banked with HSBC since I started uni. I had a student account for three years and then a graduate account. I went into the branch and they said it would be perfectly fine to have another student account with them but as I wanted a free railcard I declined!

Natwest were fine with me opening a student account with them, though one women told me I couldn't keep my graduate account with HSBC. This turned out to be rubbish.

So in conclusion after all my long winded waffling - I don't think they really have any policy on this at all so just keep trying. The other option is don't mention the fact this is a second degree as Pip says there is nothing in the terms and conditions (at Natwest at least) so really as long as you didn't bank with them the first time round they will never know!!!

I agree with picking a good branch. My local Natwest branch manager is excellent. I had no problems getting my regular account converted to a student account, even though it was for my second undergrad degree, and I had my original student account with Natwest too. The manager even let me have the £60 cash offer, although it did state in the bumf that you could only get this if it was your first ever student account!

Victory at last!! Finally, I have a student account with RBS. I used all your helpful tips and went into a university-close branch, spoke to a real person, who helped me get the account I need. This is no end of relief and overdraft facilities definitely needed! Thanks all....

Sorted! Sounds like persistence is the key - rather like medical school applications
