Overseas med schools - Spain? US?

Anyone (particularly mature) considering applying to non-UK med schools? US? Spain?

I am planning to apply to the UK (I am British and based in London) but was considering Spain and possible US too...I have started doing some research but it takes a while to get up the learning curve.

Any info/advice/sources that might be helpful are appreciated...

    Melanie

Hi, I've been having similar types of thoughts. The place I researched the most was from an advert on the coverpage of the Medschoolguide. It's just started teaching this May and is situated in Nottinghamshire (near Sherwood Forest). It's called the School of Health & Neural Sciences.
I'd be really interested in any feedback from existing students there.

    Hi Melanie,

I am a mature-ish student planning on applying to medicine here in the UK, but if I fail, I had Spain in mind, and to be more exact Granada University is Andalucia. I have friends coming from there, who obviously studied there as well, and I have been around the university and the city itself extensively, and at least to my testimony you will not only be visiting from I think is one of the oldest medical schools in Europe, but on top of that, the people are so immensely friendly, the tapas are free, prices cheap, lovely setting and climate cosmopolitan, and beaches a 45 minute drive away!

I would definitely recommend have a look into that, because at the same time you are studying, you also want to be enjoying life. There is Granada you will be doing just that. However, I think the medical course there is Spain is something like seven years (graduate medical school is unheard of there) so you better be prepared for many years, and obviously a lot of hard work ahead of you.

Hope this little bit of insight helps

    Marcus
