HOSPITAL ALLOCATIONS - ROYAL PRESTON HOSPITAL ... Who knows about preston ?
Hi all,
I'm a 3rd year St Andrews student, where you'd know that we gonna practise our clinical years in Manchester, somehow I don't know why on earth I got into Preston which was my 4rth choice. My choices were HOPE - MRI - SOUTH and lastly Preston.
I heard that its possible to appeal to change hospitals, is that right ? because seriously that's so disappointing for me to be away from my friends and to get my 4th choice ... Its like I don't know hows preston like, it looks so boring to me, EVEN THOUGH students there say its the best teaching in Manchester university which I don't know yet .. but yeah any reccomendations ? Any students in Preston could at least impress me ? lol ..
Cheers
-Abdullah ( DESPRATE St Andrews Student :P )

St Andrews what a lovely place to live, the best student life ever experienced, Small town, Big history, and with all pride, St Andrews Uni is still erect since 1413.

It is the best of the hospitals. They are super keen not to be boring so seem to have more social events than Manc. Lots of people get their 4th choice and loads of St Andrews folk always go to Preston so you wont be away from everyone.

I, like you, got sent to preston against my will. Didn't know anyone when I got there. I think what Bambi says is pretty accurate, it does have arguably the best teaching programme and there does seem to be a degree of overcompensation in social events.
I have posted at length before about what preston's like and the pros/cons (do a search), so I won't go into much detail other than to say despite my reservations I had an amazing time at preston, made lots of friends, and put it as my first choice for foundation job - and now work here as an F1. I believe I am a better doctor for having studied here

It's a fantastic hospital. I never visited it until second year after allocations had been made and giving that I'm spending over two hours daily commuting here in London at the moment and tolerating it well, I'd happily have put down Preston as my first choice had I known how good it was.
Don't bother with appealing unless you've got a really good reason.

My Son lost his appeal to change from Preston (4th Choice), but says it was the best thing that could have happened. He thinks the teaching is fantastic and he has made lots of friends there (including a lot of St Andrews students).

It sounds here that you guys have a good experience in Preston, however as for St Andrews students , I looked up the list this year and there was only 20 out of 130 students from St Andrews Univerisity are allocated in Preston. It doesn't matter with me as long as Preston is a lovely place to stay and live and having friendly people there.
But it sounds cool,
Thanks Bambi, NV05, medic2bmum for your replies
- J00ni, i will check the thread about the pros/cons of preston, but yeah you look like you really enjoying your time there.
- I guess everyone here has his/her thumbs up for Preston hospital.
Cheers.
Just a quick question J00ni, i heard that there's a great UCLAN sports arena there, could we as students of Manchester University can get involved there?

You can use any of the UCLan facilities open to the public, but the uni only facilities are harder to get access to and Manc/UCLan hadn't reached an arrangement to let us use them last time I checked. Also your manc student ID doesn't give you as many discounts here as a UCLan one would

Oh thats SAD, so if you're a sports person, where do you actually go in PRESTON ? to be more specific, I play basketball and tennis, and for me playing sports with other students, is part of my social life..
