3) Ranking by UKCAT
4) Top 50% of those ranked go straight to interview. The remainder are selected on the basis of their application plus UKCAT scores)

The process as far as stage 2 is the same as previously and they usually interviewed ~1,100 applicants (out of ~3000). They've introduced the UKCAT ranking stage to cut down on the number of applicants being interviewed - they want to interview about 750 next year. They still fully consider the rest of your application before looking at your UKCAT - so a lowish score could be fine.
well thats annoying because i rang them up and they sed that they did it jus after the academic screening so it would be;

1) Academic assesment
2) Ranking of the UKCAT

I wish medical schools would jus tell us the truth. i wouldnt have wasted a phone call as i thought it was how theatrical sed but then got confused. They irritate me muchly.

Ahh well sorry jus felt the need to rant!

it's completely unfair if they don't look at the personal statement PRIOR to interview selection and base it just on academic assessment and the UKCAT (which i personally think if a poor selection tool in itself). theatrical, is the procedure you said being used in this year's cycle?

i agree it is completely unfair to not look at the personal statement and im sure that what theyre going to do (well i hope so anyway i put sooooo much work into it - like we all did) it jus irritates me that unis can never seem to get their selection process straight and tell us the truth about them!

Im dead set on Manchester, as a mancunian born and bred I don't want to leave and to go to the med school is my ultimate ambition!

I got 9A*'s and 2A's at GCSE, AAAAB at AS (resitting the B), probably predicted AAAA/AAAB at A-level.
UKCAT is
VR:720 QR:740 AR:630 DA:850 giving me 2940 total 735 average.
I've had 9 months in a special school, a week at Trafford General and 3 days at Wythenshawe, plus 4 weeks in Manchester's Cardiovascular Research department helping out a clinical research fellow.

I know obviously I've got to demonstrate what I've learnt (mainly that playdough is fun and that old ladies can drink infinite amount of tea!) but on paper, whats my chances of getting to interview?
Any further stuff needed?

Cheers!
wow...you've got nothing to worry about hun!
good luck anywayl...
i've just got the one interview at the moment and nervous but excited
