    Help Im bored

Hiya everyone hope your all okies!

right then, some of you may know of my situation but i was defered last year after the exam board messed up a module mark. I really want to do some learning this year and Ive already got martini anatomy and physiology. Can any 1st years or other years send me some info on what I should be learning for the first two semester. I know it sounds sad but to be quite honest I really am bored and would like to start to learn some stuff maybe to give me a head start. If anyone has a detailed syllabus it would be really beneficial!

    Many Thanks

We don't get a detailed syllabus!

There is no point learning it now, you will have forgotten it all by the time you start and if you haven't when you actually do start you will be mega bored because you know it all already!

If you are absolutely desperate to learn something learn reproduction and everything around that, the first couple of cases go into it a lot.

Emery's Elements of Medical Genetics make a delightful read and if not at least prove quite useful for the first semester so you may wish to have a look at that.

What do you do in your gap year? Any exciting travel plans? If you are staying in UK and have not yet done so it may be useful to look around for some sort of a job in hospital. Money combined with experience, both will prove more useful in first year then any reading you can do (in my opinion that is).

Make the most of your gap year, do not get bogged down in Martini or Emery's if you're not here yet, I'm not saying it wouldn't help, but I wish I'd made the most out of my gap year and instead found myself reading medical literature and watching Deal or No Deal.

    many thanks for the replies..

Im working as a HCA in Intensive care and accident and emergency for a temporary contract. I am also a community responder working for the ambulance service and treating people on Catagory A emergency calls. Im going skiing for a month in january and a holiday next summer. The fact is.. Im very bored between working plus I thought it would be beneficial to keep my brain occupied. I ve got this fear of not doing any work for my gap year then suddenly being hit with a great load of work at medical school and not being able to cope. So I want to get my mind into a learning mode ready for 5 years of learning! Plus the fact a gap year was never planned, I was forced to take it if i was to do medicine in the future

I think the best thing for you to do would be to read about the normal anatomy/physiology, then pathology/etc of clinical cases you see in your job. That way it should make your job more interesting and make you remember the stuff much better.

Other than that though I would get a hobby

edit: a hobby or other extracurricular activity would actually probably be a better idea, as it will look good on your F1 application
