The biomedical interview is much more informal (or it was when i had mine). They take you all into a big lecture hall and give a talk about the subject, then they provide lunch, then take you for 1 on 1 interviews basically asking why you chose manchester and the course.

I was quite open about the fact that I wanted to do medicine as a 1st choice (and from my PS and UCAS form they knew as much anyway, so no point in hiding the fact), so just talked about what I would do if i didn't get into medicine (ie doing biomed, then post grad med)

That's strange, when I applied for 2004 entry, I got 2 offers off Manchester for Biomedical Sciences and Anatomical Sciences without having any interviews.

Maybe they're expecting more applicants for it this year. Does the fact that they're giving interviews/offers now, mean that normal applicants who have until the 15th January to submit their UCAS could be really disadvantaged if they don't hand it in early?

Although I don't know anyone going for Biomed, that doesn't have it as a reserve for Medicine.

ive also got an interview at manchester for biomedical on the 22nd nov. I was also thinking that people who want to do biomedical on its own and not medicine would have an advantage sending it now. I have it as a backup then again it used to be my first choice but i thought medicine would be more interesting and not stupid genetics lol

they interview all the people with medicine personal statements at the same time. They interview very infromally- mine was in a lab with students working around me. I think you can say anything and they'll give you an offer, that's the way it seemed to me.

Probably with having the predicted grades of a potential medical student (so significantly higher than is required for a lot of courses,) they won't care much about it being your second choice.

I wouldn't bank on it. They give all medicine applicants an AAB offer so that it can't be used as a back-up. i.e. if you miss your medicine offer you'll miss your insurance too. The faculty of life science didn't take any medicine applicants who missed their grades last year.

The faculty had over 4000 applicants for its 500 places last year and made ~1200 offers, they didn't take anyone who missed their grades and didn't enter clearing. They are popular enough with people genuinely interested in their courses to be able to be very picky over which "medics" they invite to interview.

Really? Ooh that's quite a scary thought. But how many of the 4000 applicants do you think originally had it as a back up before being rejected from all four med schools? I'm yet to meet anyone who would chose Biomedical Sciences as their first choice; but then again in my school practically everyone wants to be a teacher!
