My medicine application

Hey people,

I have applied for Medicine at:
Manchester
Leeds
Liverpool
Oxford

My primarly and a realistic choice would be Manchester (i also live there). My predicted grades are 4As in Bio, Chem, Phy and Maths, i also got an A in AS Urdu (lang) and doin an AS in Critical Thinking.

I am not really very educated in modern Medical advancements, etc and will definately find it hard to answer quesion like these:

-What do you think will be the advancements in medicine in the next 20 years?
-What factors affected the health of Victorians?
-Should Tony Blair disclose statistics regarding surgeons’ success rates?
-What developments will there be in medicine in the next 20 years?
-What about cloning?
-Who would you put on a panel to discuss Gene Therapy?
-How far do u think medical soaps on tv educate the public on
preventative medicine? Do you think more should be done to make these dramas
realistic?

What are my chances of an offer, and if any could provide tips for these questions?

Thanks

I would say that academically you have a good chance, as long as you have some extracurricular experience and a good PS.

As for the questions (with the possible exceptions of the one about Victorian medicine, and the gene therapy panel - neither of which i would expect you to get) do you not even have an opinion on these topics??!! Even with no education on the subject most people will have an opinion on the topics. Just think about what you feel for each topic, remember, there is no right or wrong answer its just to show that you are capable of critical thought about current affairs (and in that respect it would be pointless for us to give our opinions as these are mostly as personal as the 'why medicine' question)

definately agree. you must be passionate and intuitive about medicine and the implications of recent medical developments. you must have an opinipn on pertinent issues (a weak one at that) as passive students with sublime academic records are not woth they look for. so, brohter, i encourage u to read around medicine and take different opinions into account, yet form your own opinion at the end if it. good luck, wasalaam
