don't worry - they interview until march - so u may not hear about whether u get an interview until early next year.

No news is better than bad news.

Don't worry. They don't start sorting through the applicants until all applications are received (ie 15th Oct), so it's been less than 2 weeks yet. Remember too that they have well over 10,000 applicants (probably much more now), and that they don't go through the UCAS forms in a logical order, it is totally random (so when you applied has no bearing). Like chunky says, don't start worrying untilk it gets to April

As for why not a nurse/physio, this should largely be a personal question, but here are a few points from my perspective:

Doctors can prescribe the full range of treatments available (physios have a very limited scope for prescribing, as do nurses - although there scope is wider)

Doctors are far more autonomous, they often direct the clinical management of patients, deciding what treatments are best, and who to involve.

Similar to the above, doctors are leaders of a team, they take on board all the treatment modalities and professionals available to them and delegate tasks to achieve the best care of the patient.

Doctors have a far greater scope for career paths, and obviously are paid better. (the pay thing needs to be qualified, eg better pay leads to less stress, which allows you to perform your job better).

This list is not exhaustive, but was just off the top of my head to give you a few pointers

10,000 applications, isn't it around 3000? Or are you talking about UCAS?

I thi9nk for my year (2005 entry) for medicine at manchester there were around 3500 applicants for around 325 places. but they gave around 800 offers and gave out around 360 places. (yes they took in an excess). A few ppl have already dropped out. I think one person dropped out in freshers' week. This course isn't for everyone, but if you are willing to work hard (trust me there is a hell of a lot of work) then u should be fine.I'm really enjoying it, and the social life kicks ass. (Much better (and cheaper) than a lot of other places).

Good Luck everyone

Have Manchester started interviewing? Doesn't seem to be anyone on the forum who has one anyway.

Sorry that was a bit of brain fade, you are right, it is more like 10-12 applicants per place.

See this is what doing medicine does to you

Probably not yet, usually takes them a couple of weeks after the deadline to start interviewing in any major way.

I rang them and they said that there is no tour / lunch on the day of the interview (for mine on the 6th anyway). You just turn up at the time on the letter for your interview. Have to find something to amuse myself for a few hours before now.
