Don't worry. They don't start sorting through the applicants until all applications are received (ie 15th Oct), so it's been less than 2 weeks yet. Remember too that they have well over 10,000 applicants (probably much more now), and that they don't go through the UCAS forms in a logical order, it is totally random (so when you applied has no bearing). Like chunky says, don't start worrying untilk it gets to April
As for why not a nurse/physio, this should largely be a personal question, but here are a few points from my perspective:
Doctors can prescribe the full range of treatments available (physios have a very limited scope for prescribing, as do nurses - although there scope is wider)
Doctors are far more autonomous, they often direct the clinical management of patients, deciding what treatments are best, and who to involve.
Similar to the above, doctors are leaders of a team, they take on board all the treatment modalities and professionals available to them and delegate tasks to achieve the best care of the patient.
Doctors have a far greater scope for career paths, and obviously are paid better. (the pay thing needs to be qualified, eg better pay leads to less stress, which allows you to perform your job better).
This list is not exhaustive, but was just off the top of my head to give you a few pointers
