Summatives
Alryt folks,
So our second year summatives are fast approaching and revision just seems as though it could be endless for the next few weeks. I was just wonderin if there seemed to be any trends in the written papers over previous years, i.e. common questions they ask and stuff they are very unlikely to ask? especially for paper one as I just have no idea what to know and how much in depth to go with everything.
Also any idea whether if passing the formatives with very little revision should be a confidence boost or should i just forget about that.
Any help would be awesome.
Cheers.

I would say they are extremely likely to ask you questions on your core cases! They give you the list to guide your revision, and using it is a great idea. And they're extremely unlikely to ask you on stuff that you haven't covered yet. Of course passing the formatives are a fabulous confidence boost, but I wouldn't let it guide you into a false sense of security (I always seem to do worse in summatives for some reason! hmm)
Good luck! When are they?

They are in 2 weeks. Cheers for that, its pretty much what i was doing thankfully lol.
What about paper 1 though, is this just completely random or have there been any common questions that seem to come up on every paper 1, I just know that first year paper 1's have a lot of the same on every year

argh. Do you know the date of them yet (my boyfriends in 2nd year and is slightly lax on sharing details of the exams!)
paper 1 is totally random. i think it's very difficult to study for, and s a reflection of the work you've done along the year. I think in 2nd year anatomy and physiology questions still come up, so i would flick briefly through your martini/tortora.

well the majority of 2nd year pbl is on internal medicine right? don't neglect any topic/pbl but just remember thinking is this enough detail for a 2nd year to know.

paper 1 as rach said is totally random and will be a mixture of anatomy, physiology and possibly a bit of pathology
paper 3 should be based on your core cases and you won't be asked things you haven't covered yet - or shouldn't be anyways (if you are make sure you complain!)FY1 - medicine, surgery, O&G

i remember coming out of paper 3 and wishing i'd written a list of all the common tests/invstigations to look at before i'd gone in, so although i can't remember the paper (it was 2 years ago) i guess there were a lot of "what investigation would you do..." questions. which would make sense - in 2nd year paper 3 is all about common features of disease an how you go about diagnosing them, with less emphasis on treatments. but yeah, they still stick some anatomy /physiology qs in to paper 1 as i guess you haven't covered enough pathology yet to fill 2 papers with.

also...id focus a fair bit of time doing the old PP. It's boring as....but it is the only guaranteed topic on the papers and i think a lot of people neglect this aspect! Good luck
