I think its still 85 like last year. I emailed to ask if we would get a breakdown of the marks for each paper like we did in the formatives, but the answer was no!
Don't worry that you failed the formative! I went into the 2nd yr summative OSCE having never passed an OSCE (we took 1st and 2nd yr formatives, failed both!), thought I did really bad, but passed! Like Louise says, it was all stuff from the books, I think more or less all examinations came up and plenty of computer and history stations, then the usual BLS, venepuncture, injection etc. You'll be fine! Good luck.
I passed everything too, can't quite believe it. Will be able to enjoy my hols properly now
Oh and Louise, I don't like your signature, its a bit scary thinking that we're gonna be 4th years!

my locas was at warrington - had never been there before, but very impressed with them. all really nice and they picked very good patients for us - apart from their kartageners syndrome party piece that they apparently like to drag out every year! it was quite cool to see though, and they obviously didn;t expect us to get the diagnosis.

Phew... so they stuck to the list... so I dont get why it was so hard then, appart from the obvious like not enough revision time etc, what was difficult about it? The only part im dreading is the sensory part, its so wide it could be anything from opthalmsocopy to otoscopy to cranial nerves, you name it!!!!

It's quite funny how each hospital has it's party piece. Whiston has a guy with polycythaemia rubra vera with the most perfect spleen ever that they drag out every year. You could practically see the splenic notch from the end of the bed.
It's sad how excited I get about a spleen.Dr. Batman SHO

Kavita- sorry to scare you but it's true. We are fourth years now. Get with the program! I'm actually thinking I might learn some anatomy this summer as I don't have resits. Might be handy for finals to actually know where different things are. On the other hand I might just sit in the sun. Tough one.
It can still be hard with a list. For the third year they stuck to the list but it still meant at times you were completely baffled. We had "gum" on our list. To me that meant we'll need to know how to do the appropreate exams. Imagine my shock therefore when on the first day of third years Osces i walk in to a computer station to find myself greated with photos of various diseased nether regions! They would ask you to put the correct photo with each diagnosis and give treatment options. Condering we don't actually go to a GUM clinic in third year and as a result haven't actually seen any of the diseases it was a bit tricky. Ultimately you find yourself looking at things going "is that cottage cheesy or watery...." Plus histories can by anything so if you get a presentation and honestly don't know what's going on it's tricky to come up with a diagnosis. It can also be hard because of time constraints. Having to do a full respiratory exam and report your findings in 5 mins last year was fairly tricky and if I hadn't practiced all the exams against a stop watch I would never have got quick enough.
My advice would be to practice doing exams within the time, be prepaired to take any history from the core case list (not that it exists of course) and then when they throw a complete curve ball of a computer station in try and think about it rationally.
Finally.... I've never liked spleens. It's not my least favourtie organ (that would be the kidney) but it wouldn't make the top three (clearly heart, brain and liver).

yeah kf101 it is nice to have a nice summer not worrying about resits like last year although I got 85 in paper2 which I failed last year so I suppose the good thing about failing last year was I learnt the ethics properly this year so I learned my lesson!
I definately want to do some reading for 4th year before I start, have any fourth years got any tips for anything new that would be worth reading up on before we start?
