R.I.P Free time? (2nd year topic)

I have this annoying voice in the back of my head that is constantly screaming that free time is gone. It's no more.
With 2nd year it's all gonna be work, same with 3rd year. And by 4th and 5th year you'll be used to sleeping in the hospitals.

I find it exciting that we are finally getting to the Medicine bit. But this is just the beginning and everyone is over-whelmed. I honestly don't see a gap or a window for R&R in the near future, except maybe Christmas.

well i managed to pass 2nd year by doing about an hour of pbl work a week, albeit with one resit. not that i'm recommending that method, but its not like you're never gonna go out again.

medicines hard but its not insane. no one would do it if you had no life whatsoever while you were at uni. just from posts on this forum you can see that people have loads of outside interests that they manage to keep up during uni - i'm the treasurere of a uni society, i believe melon is into his martial arts quite heavily, and loads of my medic friends are either into some sport or other or just simply love going out alot. a posiive attitude goes a long way in this game.

It's just....I somewhat feel guilty whenever I waste time on something that isn't beneficial to the course. For some reason....

I dunno, maybe it's just that I have a job to do and I intend to see to it till the end.

sa do we all, but life in general is about being a rounded person. i'm not convinced that working yourself to the bone during uni is really going to make you a better doctor than the person who does his work, has an active social life, and involves himself in extra curricular activities which will teach new skills and hone old ones.

I know what you mean about the guilty feelings when doing stuff other than work, i cant read fiction books close to exams for example, but its very important to have something other than medicine and to set aside time to do it every week. ofr example ive set myself a promise that i will go hikinh every sunday this year, even close to exams...its my designated day off and nothing is going to get in its way.

ill let you know how it goes haha

    That sounds exciting!
I wish I had the willpower to do something like that.

The only thing I do religiously in terms of R&R is watching the Daily Show whenever it's on.

The Daily Show - pointless American humour at it's best! I really don't find that show funny at all, give me a bit of Jimmy Carr any day.

But anywho, you will have spare time. In second year I worked one night a week, went out about once a week and still made time to see friends, go to the gym and practice my secret ninja talents. Work hard, play hard is my philosophy.

Perhaps you are a true ninja if you can juggle all that.

And I must say, how dare you insult Jon Stewart? He might be the only human being on earth that actually understands American politics.

Well, you have to admit, the show is highly acclaimed. Otherwise they wouldn't show it for FREE in the UK just as soon as they air it over in America. My cousin who lives there has to subscribe to cable in order to bask in it's glory.

    Gulf Council Corporation.
It's like the EU but for Arabian countries on the gulf.

It was built in order for us to have some friggin' peace of mind and tell the other countries to leave us out from their politics. One of the best benefits is that I can enter Dubai with just my ID card.
