Red face GEP - Current GEP Students

Hey, as i had a late interview i never had the opportunity to attend any Open Days and to grill current students.

Basically i need to ask current students on the GEP a few questions and getting answers out of the admin office is like getting blood out of a stone.

1)In first year how much contact did you have with other disciplines - mainly dental GEPs and Biosciences?

    2) Was your timetable 9-5 everyday?

3)Where is lectures based and what is the proximity to Station, Hospital and other uni buildings (mainly liabary)?

    4) Do u actually go straight into second year (of 5yr) lectures or are you taught seperately?

Sorry if these questions sound redundant but they are just a few things i would like to know. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I've just finished GEP 1st year and firstly congrats on getting on the course!

    1. I guess most people will have no contact with dental and biosciences students. Unless you live with them, there are very few lectures that you have together.

    2. This varied throughout the year. During the first month or so, while only GEPs are there, you focus on clinical skills and some lectures so it's pretty intensive. Then, when you start hospital, you'll generally be having lectures every monday and friday (about 3 lectures a day) and spend 2 days in hospital. GEPs tend to spend 9-5 in hospital cause I think we think we need to catch up :-) Then you'll spend some rotations with 4 days in hospital, one day in GP and later 3-4 days in hospital a week. Inbetween all this, you'll be doing PBL, about 3 sessions of 2 hours over 2 weeks so usually on monday, monday and friday.

    3. The main lecture theatres where most lectures are held is in the Sherrington building. This is next to the library. Opposite the Sherrington building is cedar house, where you'll probably do a lot of your PBL. Some lectures are done in the Duncan building, just across the road next to the Royal hospital. So it's all very near to everything else. If you're based in Aintree hospital for your rotations, the train station is about a 15 minute walk from the library.

    4. For the first part of the year, while the first and second years of the 5 year course are away, you'll have only GEP teaching, which is great! But don't get used to it ;-) When the second years get there, you'll start attending the first and second year lectures which is a bit of a juggling act. While you're in hospital, you'll get a few lectures for just GEPs by the consultants. There are the odd GEP only lectures dotted around throughout the year. Don't get too worried about missing the odd lecture because you're on hospital rotation - lectures are useful, but nothing beats teaching by a consultant or HO - I learnt so much more by being in hospital.

If there's anything else you need to know specifically, let me know :-)

BTW, the handbook and a basic outline of the GEP timetable is in the handbook, page 9:
