Registering with a GP

This might seem like a bit of a weird question but what happens about registering with a GP? Do students register with a practice near where they live or is there a GP on campus that all the students register with? Thanks to anyone who can shed any light! x

You register at student health. You get given instructions when you get here. It's pretty simple. Not sure what the GP's are like, I've never actually been.

well i live at R&G, and am going to be off penny lane next year and i go to greenbank road surgery, which is about 5 mins from D&R and R&G. I find i can get seen there much quicker than student health, where it can take 3 weekss to get an appointment from what i've heard! The drs at greenbank are very good too, when i was very ill last term one turned up at my halls to check if i was ok, which was very nice. It's nicer being slightly more annoymous too.

so yeh, there are other options besides student health, it's up to you what you want really.

Thanks, that's good to know. I've applied to R&G. It looks like most of the private housing is in the same area so will have a think... it's something I might do in the summer, one less stress at the beginning of the year!

the GPs at student health are nice. There is one nurse there who is a complete and utter bitch. but then there are others who are totally lovely.

and they give nasty big bruises when they take blood (on both arms, as for some odd reason she couldn't get the needle in my huge friendly veins). i looked like a partialy sighted addict for a good week and a half. however she was very appologetic so i'll forgive her just this once.

I'm registered at student health, though usually go to Brownlow as it is about a 1 min walk from me! I always get an appointment fairly soon, earliest is usually 2/3 days from when you ring up, never had to wait more than a few days. All the nurses and doctors I've seen have always been nice
