Angry rejection on basis of GCSE grades mature ppl?

    Hi
I got my feedback from liverpool today
I'm a mature student aged 22 and last year did access to medicine I applied with my grades already acheived 76% chem and 84% biology more than 70% is needed so fine I thought. And esp as I got these working over 30 hours a week due to no funding for access shows good academic ability and time management, stress managerment etc all very important qualities for a doctor.
They have said my gcse grades were not high enough so never mind the great grades I have got this year they have rejected me on average(not bad just average) grades from 5 nearly 6 years ago I got 4 a's 2b's and a c I only sat seven as I did one in 1999 then 6 in 2000. Maths was grade B and english grade A.
I just feel this is such a fob off I could of understood if I was rejected as there were people with higher access grades or more w/e than my year in a nursing home but on gcse grades!!
Has anyone else-access student or normal a-level people had a similar problem?
I feel they were looking for something to reject me with and everything else was fine so they picked these can anybody tell me how they have any relevance to me now????

Thanks(sorry to rant but argh mad!!!!)n

Yeap, I was also rejected partly on the basis on my GCSE grades when I applied last year, even though I sat them 10 years ago. I had applied via the OU route, and had obtained two distinctions in three of the courses I took. I also think I was rejected due to lack of work experience too, as I had only 6 months. But having two young children, and gaining work experience is very hard, that's my excuse.

Thats very odd - they usually only specify you need higher than a C in english which you clearly have. Id call them up and have a word if i were you.

    hi,
im not sure whether this would apply to you seeing as you have done access to med but when i got the letter acnowledging my application they gave me a link to an obscure part of their website.

    http://www.liv.ac.uk/study/undergrad...s/Medicine.htm

If you scroll down, it reads that to be selected for interview you need:

    'Minimum of 15 points at GCSE (where A*/A = 2 B = 1)'

which i thought was very sneaky of them because it mentions nothing of this in their prospectus

Really sorry to hear about your rejection misty blue. But whilst trawling through liverpool's admission stuff on the net before i reapplied, i found something saying that to be offered an interview you need at least "15 point from your GCSEs" , where 3= A* 2=A 1=B or something like that. That may explain it, if they're working stringently on that.

There A level offers have also gone up this year (AA must be in sciences) so liverpool seem to be more harsh with regards to qualifications.

So they don't give you point for C grades? That sucks, oh well.
