I phoned them twice before I applied and on the open day in oct I asked the admissions tutor who gave the talk on applying about my app i just said I had done access and my college and she just said did i have eng and maths grade c gcse which i have and she said fine nothing else not have you got enough as we need 15 points!
this is the email:
I am writing in response to your email requesting feedback on your
unsuccessful application for the A100 medical programme at Liverpool.
Application for places is very competitive with over 1900 applications for
292 places. Unfortunately, your GCSE grades were not high enough to allow
you to compete effectively. In addition, it is unclear whether you have
taken the specific Access to Medicine course at Halton College or the more
generic Access to Science course which we do not consider suitable for
entry.
funny thing is there is NO course entitled access to medicine they do accept access to science which this admissions tutor who sent me this doesn't seem to know which is a bit worrying when he is telling me I need to have done a course which doe not exist! i took the access to science course as they accept this they have leaflets printed and everything!

Who was the response off if you dont mind me asking?
I think the best thing to do is persevere..explain to them what you have just said there in an email, take your time with it and make it as simple for them as you can.if you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours

Hey, sorry to hear about the rejection.. it seems pretty harsh, so just keep pestering them! I know Halton College do an Access To Medicine course for mature students cos I tried to get into that in my gap year until I realised it was for people who hadn't done a-levels lol I have no idea about the science one though. Good luck anyway! xxx

Petty Rejections
I feel very sorry for those that have been rejected on the basis of their GCSE results. All I know is that the pre-requisite GCSE's are Maths and English Grade A or B is what you must have.
Having said that they seem to be rejecting anyone for any reason they can find?
Has anyone been placed on the Lancaster reserve route instead?

hi, mistyblue.... 1st of all sorry to hear abt ur rejection..... but Liverpool and Manchester are both xtremely fussy abt GCSE grades in English Language and Maths..... last yr (while on the Access course), i was rejected by both as i had a Grade C in GCSE Maths even though i also had a Grade C in A-level Maths!!!!!!!!!...... now common sense prevails that any1 who can achieve Grade C @ A-level Maths, GCSE Maths is walk in a park for them..... but no any rason to cut dwn numbers......despite my desperate crying and begging and more crying.... they both turned me down for something i did (or didnt do as well) ten yrs ago!!!!! **** sooooo p'eed off *****
Anyway, i re-sat my GCSE Maths last yr, got Grade A... and hav reapplied agin dis yr.....no interviews from them yet but no rejections either..... i guess no news = good news!!!!!! (or may am being an opportunistic fool!!!!!)
morale of the story is.... 2 get into Manchester/Liverpool u gona hav 2 re-sit ur GCSE Eng-Lang/Maths (if u havnt got Grade B or better)!!! sorry hun....but hop dat xplains how snobby som med-skools can b!
by da way.... where did u do ur Access?
