    AS levels

    Hi guys!

I'm in a bit of a state atm, because my AS grades were nothing to be proud of (AAABC) the last two being in Biology and Chemistry. I understand that most medical schools ask for at least an AAA prediction which is according to my college unfeasible. My ukcat is on monday so we shall see how it goes, but is there any point in applying as there are many more outstanding students who have fulfilled the criteria. (my GCSEs were 8A*, 2A & 1B, double distinction ICT). ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Farhana95,

Sorry to hear that you're disappointed.

If you get 3As then next year you'll be in a great position to apply - 3As "in the bag" so to speak is more appealing than 3As predicted.

I would imagine that not being predicted 3As will certainly limit where you're likely to get an interview this year. However, I know this is a little out of date but there are some places that offer AAB:

Medschoolsonline - Medical Course Guide for School Leavers - Standard Courses

I've just had a quick look at HYMS and they say that whilst their offer is AAA, you need to be predicted AAB so there's 1!

Entry requirements - Undergraduate at Hull York Medical School

Essentially, I'd recommend a little research and some emails. If you're confident about getting three As then maybe have a chat with your teachers too?

Anyway, see how the UKCAT goes today (good luck by the way) but don't beat yourself up too much about your AS levels. You could still get an offer this year but if not, ensure you get your grades and apply next year.

    Good luck!
    UEA 2013 - (hopefully) 2018

Thank you, for that advice, I hadn't looked into Hyms too much so I will definitely take a look! You're UKCAT score is brilliant, and so are you're a levels It's good to know that there is still some hope! I will keep you posted on how the UKCAT goes (not long now!)!

    x take care
