GCSE's
Hi everyone,
I'm new on here and I just really wanted some advice about my GCSE's. I was doing really well in school until my granddad dies and I got badly bullied, I had to move schools three times and have now ended up being home-tutored but i am effectively a year behind everyone else (I should be in yr 11, I'm currently catching up and doing work for yr 10), i am working on the following GCSEs:
english lit: A*= predicted grade
English Lang : A* =predicted grade
biology: A= predicted grade
chem:A= predicted grade
physics: A =predicted grade
maths: B= predicted grade
history: A= predicted grade
Im really stressing as Im only studying 7 gcses, is that enough? and I'm stressed i won't have any to fall back on if one goes wrong if that makes sense. Can anyone help?
P.S I'm hoping to go to oxbridge or another top uni
thanks

If you go on to get those gcse then there should be plenty of medical schools that you can apply to. It's really a question of being tactical and looking at your exams, ukcat/bmat etc.
Personally I wouldn't worry about whether a uni is "top" or not. As long as it's accredited by the gmc then it really doesn't matter where you go. Remember you're there for 5+ years so you need to like the course type and the place.
I'm not criticising oxbridge but it's not for everyone so I wouldn't pick it because you think it'll look good or is a "better" uni.
Good luck with your exams.UEA 2013 - (hopefully) 2018

Hi sorry to hear you have had a rough time. I think though some medical school *might* discount you for having only 7 gcses as it is a little bit of a low number . I would advise you to create a generic email asking medical schools if they would accept this number and send it out to all the medical schools, (just change the medical school name etc in the email!) if you don't find enough medical schools are happy to accept that number then perhaps you could pick up a couple of more gcses to do alongside your a levels (tbh there are some pretty easy gcses you could do at night school or something if it is just your number that are slightly lacking).
Send the email as soon as you can that way you have time to remedy the situation before you apply if you find medical schools are not accepting of the number. Hope that helps a little.4/6 the way there! eeek! Entering 4th medical year. To find out about what its like being on the wards check out my blog at:www.halfadoctor.blogspot.com

Oh and check this out : Medical School GCSE Requirements - The Student Room
Bear in mind though it might not all be up to date, so I'd still advise emailing. But looks like you should have some options anyway
