Quick A-level courses?
Hi all,
I've decided to divert my careerpath away from the Finance sector, and follow in my Dad's footsteps in being a Dental Surgeon. I currently have 2 A-levels, an A in Economics and a C in Psychology, neither of which are really going to help me in Dentistry. I'm looking for advice on how to train quickly, so that I may begin a BDS degree course at University. I was wondering if anyone had done a Chemistry AS and A-level and a Biology AS and A-level all in one year. If so, where did you do it? And how did it go?
Cheers
John

I have the same question actually. I've been trying to find courses but the one website coursefinder thing is very confusing and gets me nowhere but daytime courses which I can't take. Anyone can recommend any good evening courses in the London area?
Thanks!

Hello to JohnSeed1 & Nabbe
A Levels are designed as two years courses due to the nature of the work and assessment.
In my view, it is unlikely you'd be able to achieve both AS and A2 quals in a year because of the level of commitment
needed. Additionally, it can be that exams for AS would clash with exams for A2; similarly with the
Controlled Assessment system now in place.
Controlled Assessment means attendance at an exam centre (i.e., school, college) for set practical work.
It's now not possible to do such work at home.
I hope this helps even though it's probably not what you wanted to read!

Just stumbled across this now, but if you're still interested I know Ealing college did both last year. Both were part time in the evening and I was able to work full time ( took chemistry only). I think Southwark also had an intensive chemistry class. check out their websites.

Hi there, I am looking at doing A Level Chemistry for my GAMSAT prep for next year. I have come across Campbell Harris, a private sixth form college in Kensington. There are several options:
1. Full blown 1 year/2 year courses - v expensive.
2. Self study, pay for written exams and practical sessions - £50 per unit plus £365 per practical. This route seems very reasonable (price wise) compared to other companies out there.
The exams are every six months, practicals are during Easter. If you are committed, in theory, via route 2, you could do As and A2 exams in January 2011, particals Mar/Apr and get your qualifications in August.
If you are looking let me know and can pass you contact details - they seemed very eager to help (and take your money)
Regards
