    Medicine Predicament

This year I have applied to do engineering, two places being Cambridge and Imperial, but now think I've made a mistake, and should have done Medicine. I'm predicted A*A*A*A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry respectively and have always considered doing either medicine or engineering.

While I think I've made a mistake, I think a lot of it will depend on whether I'm offered a place for engineering at either Cambridge or Imperial (my top two choices), as to whether I decide to re-apply next year for Medicine. I've already done one of the modules for AS Biology, and was thinking that if sit the second module this summer, achieving AS Biology, then continue to do A2 Biology; would this be feasible, i.e. Universities accept that?

I'm not sure on the point of the thread, just after some advice from people, obviously it's quite an irritating dilemma.

You're better off asking the individual universities that you would think of applying to, a lot of universities will accept probably but some may not.

Yeah most want AS bio as a minimum and of course a full A-level in chem but yeah you should be fine, although if you do re-apply they will want to know why you changed your mind.

I think the more problematic issue is that you're happy to do engineering providing you get into Cambridge/Imperial. Doesn't exactly emphasise that 1) you're all that fussed about doing medicine, and 2) the reasons behind this change of heart are more focused around 'prestige' etc. Now I know that 2) is an assumption, but I'd say it's a pretty accurate one quite often ... particularly amongst folk who seem fixated on Oxbridge/ICL/UCL/etc.
