Anyone else get fishy Chem results?
Hello all,
So A/S-Level results were out today! Hope you all done well.
However, I just thought I'd bring up the fact that a number of people taking Chemistry A (new syllabus) AS-Level with OCR had unusually low Practical Assessment marks.
I noticed this myself at first; it stood out to me as it was my only module I got a 'B' in (46/60) while my teacher marked it as 38/40. Other people in my class were also a bit confused. I wasn't that bothered at first though, being that the other 80% of the course dragged my overall grade up to an 'A' and I just thought maybe my teacher over marked everyones paper and so the examiner dropped us all. (Although most of the answers were a straight forward, 'anything other than this number is wrong'.)
But then I went on TSR and noticed a large number of people having the same problem.
Being that NMM is for students hoping to study Medicine, I assumed we would all be taking Chemistry, and I was hoping to get more of an idea on how widespread the problem is.
So... How did you score in the Practical Assessment in Chemistry? (Providing you took it with OCR.)
Thanks!Last edited by magpie7; 20-08-2009 at 10:32 PM.

I got a B in Mod 5 and a C in Mod 6. Slightly odd....but at least I had plenty of leeway from last year. Don't really care to be honest, I have my grades.

My teacher said that I was on a low A, and had just scrapped it in my Practical assesment. But my results say that I had 44/60 which is a B.
I got a C overall, which was dissapointing, but it was 8 off a B.
Something fishy has been going on...
If it had been a low A, then I might have just got a B..
hmm..

Come to think about it, i had a pretty low score in my chem prac.
I'm doing biol chem and phys all with OCR.
Biol and Phys prac's were both a's but i had b in chem.
The chem mark was 46/60 whereas biol and phys were 58 and 54 respectively.
Seems they were pretty damn strict on the marking!

I had the same problem too!
My teacher told me i had an A as i got a mark of 33/40 (A low A) but i ended up with a B when i got my results back 46/60 which brought my UMS mark down..i should have had 50/60.
Still managed to get 269/300. Could have been higher though!
I also did Bio and Physics OCR and i was told by my teachers that i had 40/40 in physics and 36/40 in Biology and i got the correct UMS scores for these on results day! Maybe there was a fault?Medicine 2010'

i noticed exactly the same thing, this was the only section that i got a "B" in.
strange.
although in general i must say chemistry results where very low, alot of people i know missed their A's and ended up with low B's :S some where hoping i few pages had been missed in marking but i doubt it if this is happening across the board?Aberdeen: Acknowledged

OCR has done this quite a few times, in my first year of A-levels OCR had managed to mess up everyone's Psychology results. Everyone had either failed or achieved very poor grades such as D's. They all were sent back and remarked, and almost everyone's grade went up.
OCR missed off 13 marks of my Biology coursework too, if in doubt do ask for a remark. good luck!

I had a bit of a similar sounding issue for Biology which I took for OCR. My teacher told me I had an A and my results came out with a C for my coursework, but had a really strong A in the exam. Kinda cross, as it's wiped my chance of an A* next year.
I did chemistry with OCR too, but I did salters (B). My practical score for that was alright, but the exam went a bit badly... 98/150...retaking this one...
