Medical Schools' Criteria
Hey everyone,
Since different medical schools have different criteria..I was just wondering...
Which medical schools place more emphasise on ...
1)...GCSEs and A-level UMS marks?
2)...UKCAT/BMAT results?
3)...Work Experience?
4)...Other factors beside those above?
Thanks everyone.

Hii
1)...GCSEs and A-level UMS marks?
Birmingham- 7 A stars minimum if you only have your A grades
Edinburgh- i don't know if it's true but someone posted an email from the admissions tutor after their rejection and they said that most people that get in have between 8 and 12 a stars
Bristol/Nottingham- take your top 8 and score them but i don't know how much emphasis is on it
Queen's belfast- score your top 9 GCSE's 4 for an a star, 3 for an A and so on.. and 1 point given for every UKCAT section over 600 and i think they give offers without interview to anyone with over a set score (last year 30 but only 3 sections of the UKCAT were used as one was cancelled by pearson vue)
Cardiff- use a similar scoring of the top 9 GCSE's but they interview
Only Oxbridge ask for your UMS on their seprate form but you have the option to write them on your UCAS form and i wrote them on mine!
2)...UKCAT/BMAT results?
UKCAT:- Newcastle rank people by their UKCAT before interviewing
-Dundee use the UKCAT as 11% of their score for choosing interviewees the top quartile get 11%... the middle two quartiles get 6% and the lower quartile get 0%
Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool don't use the UKCAT at all and the only ones that use the BMAT are Oxbridge, Imperial and UCL. UCL give automatic interviews to anyone with over 19 on the BMAT and I heard that Imperial rank everyone by the BMAT and go down the list looking at their applications and inviting for interview.
3)...Work Experience?
They will all look at it lots I think.. I suppose the ones that look at it most maybe the ones that look at the other sections you mentioned least. I heard Oxbridge put less emphasis on work experience.
4)...Other factors beside those above?
They will all be interested in seeing you have done other activities like duke of edinburgh, sports, music e.t.c.1. Birmingham- Confirmation- Interviewed-Offer (AAB)
2. Nottingham - Confirmation -Interviewed- Unsuccessful
3. Dundee - Confirmation- Interviewed - Offer (AAA)
4. Bristol - Confirmation - Interviewed-Offer (AAB)
5. Newcastle Biomedical Science- Offer (ABB)
GCSE: 7A* 2A 1B
AS: Bio(A),Chem(A),Maths(A),Spanish(A),Crit Thinking(A)
UKCAT: Avg:680...640,660,670,750
