Hi, I am also a year 11 student and as far as i know chemistry and biology are both important to have for medicine.
I think the following subjects you have chosen are ok for nursing but i am not sure for medicine.
Health and social
Sociology
psychology

you should base your choices directly on prospectus requirements rather than info from anyone who could be anyone. each med skoolo show suprising differences in requirements these days, but chem is required by many skools (becos it saves the staff teaching time and ensures a better pass rate at uni, and also elps ensure cohorts are drawn from the structured skool applicant body who are more likely to accept their courses as they are).
once you've worked out necessary A lvls then fill in the rest wif your wanted/desired A lvls of course."...reminds me of childhood memories,

Psychology was personally very disappointing for me, as I felt like I was merely regurgitating information, rather than actually applying it. The subject is interesting, but the work itself is dull.
RE is a very good one for any subject you want to study at university, and I would encourage either that or philosophy.
You need Bio and Chem if you're going to be serious about an application to medicine.
Health and social care and sociology are unnecessary and not really regarded as strong subjects. You want to have 3 solid academic subjects at A level, like Bio, Chem, Maths, RE, History, English or Philosophy. There are other options, but these are just based on the background you already have.
You could have a fourth AS in any subject but you want those 3 core subjects at A2.Could end up at any one of these by 2010:
King's College London. That'd be for 5 years.
Hull or York. Again, this would be for half a decade.
Leeds. I imagine that it's not quite five years actually, but that's the general idea.
Cambridge. The idea here is that you spend three years and nine months becoming a doctor. That really is quite a bit less than 4 years.
Might even end up at Oxford. I threw in PPP as a long shot. I like Biology that much.

Yeah out of that bunch of A-level choices psychology is probably the best*, other than maths and arguably RE, which you don't seem too keen on.
I currently do psychology and it is very dull. As giella points out, it's mainly reeling off information with no real thought involved. You don't even get to express opinions in exams!
Make sure you get Bs or above in maths, English language and additional science though. It will help alot if you do, and narrow things down if you don't.
*though I have a friend who does health and social and they learn more relevant things to do with medicine/nursing than in the most part of biology or chemistry!
Yeah they are okay, and you could in theory get a place with those subjects. Just because they aren't further maths and physics it doesn't mean they aren't acceptable. They're just less common what with all the four science applicants.MB ChB, 2009-2015

The subject which you must do to go to medical school is chemistry. Biology is required for AS level at least at most if not all medical schools. Apart from that it is up to you.
Cambridge asks for three passes in chemistry, biology, physics and maths. Chemistry is essential and another pass is required in one of the other subjects at A level. So do be aware that some medical schools have unique requests.
Overall, I would choose chemistry and biology because it covers the requirements for most medical school unless you want to go to a specific med school.
Good luck with your GCSEs

I'd say go with Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Sociology. I did Sociology GCSE and it was really fun, and I think the A Level would be good for Medicine at uni. Physcology would also be good, especially as you mentioned you'd like to work in mental health.

Personally id go for the subjects that are regarded as stronger ie. chemistry, biology, maths and RE really. i dont know how psychology is regarded as we dont do it atall in my school but if it interests u, you mite aswell go for it. Maths is a good one because if you learn to do the stuff ull be able to do it all the time, its mostly repitition, not that much fun, but who cares if you get the grade!
