Question :S Art or Geography?

Okay so i was gonna choose biology, chemistry, maths and geography
but now i'm wondering whether to take art instead of geography at a-level!

I definately prefer art and i know i can get a really good grade in it, but i dont know if medical schools would accept art because it's not exactly a rigorously academic subject!

So if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated!

While some people will tell you that diversity is a good thing, I certainly wouldn't look at an Art A-level the same as I would a geography one....mostly because Geography is a proper subject....

While it won't bar you from entry into most medical schools (but it will for some) for the most part it won't help your application. That said if it was A in art or C in geography you would probably be best with art.

If you've any idea of where you'd like to apply at this stage why not have a look at their website and see if they make any comments about academic rigor or such.

I've had a look but they dont say anything other than two sciences.
I might just take Geography then to be on the safe side; just in case art isnt deemed academic enough!

Thanks for your help Arch_Angel!

I took AS art, and spent a good 5 minutes of a med school interview talking about it. In my opinion it shows that your not a stereotypical med student, which will make you stand out.

If you have 3 sciences to A2, you will meet all medical school requirements. Having a 4th unrelated AS will make you stand out and will not. Art is bloody hard, not overly academic mind you, but very time consuming nevertheless (you could argue that point on your statement and then at interview). I believe UCL actually favour candidates not providing the usual 4 science application.

I even though about doing art to AS, but artistic ability and the ability to get a good grade are very different things (I got a B overall at GCSE, but I saw my marks for final projects and still-life drawing were all approaching the 100% boundary, so I must have cocked up the 'fluff' stuff, which I hated with a passion)

Tbh I'd say do art!
It has the following advantages:
*You say you're good at it and can get a good grade
*It is a bloooooody hard subject, so you can talk about that on your PS
*Lots of uni's favour an AS in something other that science
*You can talk about how art gives your manual dexterity... great use for medicine! Being steady and good with your hands is essential init!
*You enjoy it... you need a bit of a breather!!!!
