Is a career in medicine possible with my GCSE grades

I very well know that my GCSE grades are crap but am I being realistic when it comes to wanting a career in medicine?? My GCSE's were 1A* 2A's 5B's 2C's. I just wanted to get peoples HONEST opinions. Also does anybody know anyone who got onto a medical course with GCSE grades like mine??

You are unlikely to get into medicine via the 'standard' route.

The easiest option would be to get great results at A-level, take a year out doing useful/relevant stuff and apply a year later (they will ignore your GCSE's if you have a string of A's at A-level)

If you don't think you can get good enough A-levels then you could do an undergrad degree in a relevant subject and apply for the 4 year postgrad course.

Your GCSE's are all right. Just don't apply to Oxbridge and stay away from Imperial, UCL and Kings.

Other than that, you're good to go as long as you get good AS & A-level grades. Not to mention work experience etc..

I wouldn't wanna do the undergraduate route cos I don't think I could afford it, but I'm gonna start looking into taking a gap year cos even though I'm predicted 3A's at A-level, medicine just aint gonna happen.

Yes they are just about good enough providing English, Maths and Science lie in the B and above bracket.

You'll need to choose your universities wisely however, so do your research!

All the best.

I know people with worse applying to Medicine.

Try unis like Liverpool and Keele.

Phone up lots of admissions people (numbers online) and ask them just like you have here. They will tell you whether it's worth applying or not.

You'll need predicted AAA at A level though... so high AS grades.

Well he'd get rejections from Keele (need 4A) and Liverpool (score GCSEs on point scale: A/A*= 2 | B = 1) purely based on his GCSEs. Sound advice, telling him to apply to those!

Also, he won't need to be predicted AAA unless he applies to AAA universities... Leeds, UEA, So'ton and Leicester.
Sound advice once again...
