Help guys!!! im confused
Hi guys!!!
I'm currently in year 11 and i'm applyting to sixth form soon. So, here's the story, medicine is something I really want to do but i dont know what A-levels to take!
I'm definately going to take:
Biology
Chemistry
Geography
but which would be better for my fourth option, Maths or English Literature? It's not a case of which one I enjoy more because I love them both, I'm just not sure which one would be more revelent.
Thanks in advance for any help!!

I would say Maths cos there is a fair amount of it in the course (judging by other threads) Which one are you better at?

If you love both equally, let it be maths. As some Uni's want three sciences (ie. Oxbridge).

if reading is something you do for pleasure or to relax, then maybe hold off eng lit. It becomes very difficult to read for pleasure if you're always thinking, I should be reading this or that or the other.
On the other hand, english literature was probably the most valuable A-level I did as it really taught me how to think. It teaches you how to form an academic opinion and it's a lot of fun to do because your opinions and your arguments are an important part of the assessment. It also introduces you to literature that you might not otherwise read and it'll be an experience you come to treasure in later life. Reading is a really valuable experience for anyone, as it introduces you to new styles of thinking, allows you a glimpse of foreign experiences, and other times, places and peoples.
Do English literature for AS and maybe Maths for A level. That's always an option.

Personally I'd go for english (well personally I actually did) as it will really help you develop good written skills; vital for any degree! You will write essays, lit reviews etc etc, so English might just stand you in good stead! Saying that maths will also be useful! But I would personally choose English! The choice is yours!

Im pretty good at both of them.
I was the first year 10 in my school to ever get A star in english literature (we take it a year early).
Okay i think i might take maths then, but I can always change my mind!
Thanks everyone for your help, I appreciate it.

Do both if you can, if not do maths, its much easier honestly and its regarded as worthwhile subject to your portfolio

Maths helps with chemistry problems (and would perhaps in the medical degree too) but then english as said by giella would be a useful A level as well. Id go for the one i hav best chance of getting an A in.
