What A level?
hi all, am new to this forum.
I am hoping to apply to med school in a few years time. I'm 22 but am taking a 3 years out due to family commitments..
I'm doing an A.S and A level in biology this year however my collage doesnt offer A.S and A level's in chemistry or physics. (i 'am going to attend a different collage next year to study chemistry and physics).
My question is.... what other A level should i do this year? what will med school look for. i am not keen on doing maths as i dont think i could get an A in it and think that the chem and physics is enough to show i can work mathematicaly. What A level would be usefull for me...I want to look as well rounded and give my self the best posible chance at getting in but dont really know what to do. Would less 'accademic' A level be of any use? such as physcology or some thing like that?
thanks becky

Hey!
As long as you have Chemistry and usually just one other science, most Universities don't mind about your fourth or even third. Everyone applies with a different third/fourth A-Level. You'd have to check with the universities that you're hoping to apply to to make certain though, and things may change over the next few years. On the University website or even on UCAS' course search you'll be able to see if they require a specific subject.
I'd think that with three sciences they won't mind at all what you chose as your fourth. I'd chose something that you know you would enjoy and get an 'A' in!
Good luck

Firstly - you don't need to do physics if you don't want to. Trust me, the maths in A2 chemistry is enough to show you can think mathematically. Just don't take physics because you feel you have to, although if you do want to then ignore what i've just said.
Secondly - Good subjects to show that you're rounded are subjects such as: geography, history, english, a foreign language, psychology, law. Psychology is fairly interesting, and isn't too tough. I did AS and am now continuing to A2 with it (dropped physics). There is a whole section in A2 OCR psychology about health psychology, which should be of use... I'm presuming there will be similar with other exam boards.Third Year Medical Student: Keele
