    GCSE University Entrance Requirements

Hey guys, we all know access to medicine is tough, but how tough is it? Some of us are being judged even before we knew we wanted to study medicine. I've been doing some research and called a few universities, about their real "GCSE requirements" (the ones they don't put on their specs!!!!)

Bristol prefer 8 or more A*s at GCSE
Birmingham prefer 6 or more A*s at GCSE
Oxford and Cambridge look down on getting a sinlgle B at GCSE

Does anyone else know of any other university requirements, if we all pool our research, this could be a very useful post and may stop us wasting our applications on universities with "hidden requirements"!

I was abit worried when I found out a year after my GCSEs I should of worked harder.

I only had 6A/A*s and had an interview at Bristol, but that was last year, I think last year they said they wanted 6.

When I was looking for my application last year, I think most of the unis want at least 6A's

Are you sure it's not 8 A grades. I've heard of people getting interviews/offers from Bristol with less than 5 A*s.

yeah I went to Bristol open day and I really don't remember them sayin anything about 8 A*s. That's deff not right. Birmingham are definitely tight on the amount of A*s at GCSE.....they said 6 min on the open day if I remember correctly

Cardiff do this point scale where an A* is 3 points, an A is 2 points and a B is 1 point. They take your top 9 GCSE grades and work out the number of points you have...but the grades have to include maths, the sciences and English language. Hope I've helped x

Well I had a peek at the website for Bristol and it appears to have completely changed:
