Help With A Level Choices Please?

Im supposed to be choosing my A level courses at the end of this week after recieving my GCSE results. I think that after my A level courses i want to go on and study Medicine. Only i would like to know if it neccesary to have an A Level in maths in order to study Medicine at University?
Im stuck between choosing Maths or English Literature because theyre in the same subject block and i can only choose one etcc. I think id do better in english lit than maths and get the needed A but is maths a better decision? D:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you (:

You don't need Maths for Medicine by any means. In fact, a few universities (UCL I remember hearing... someone correct me if I'm mistaken) prefer a non-Science discipline subject in addition. It certainly makes you seem a bit more interesting - I took English Lit all the way to A2 (along with Biology and Chemistry) and it got me where I needed to go. Great subject too.

So if you enjoy it, and think you can get the grade, go for it

    Good luck on Thursday!

Thank you for the help (:
I always thought that maths was preferred, and i didnt know what to do when i saw that the subject choices overlapped.
I think in the end im going to end up taking Biology, Chemistry, English Lit and Psychology too but not to A2 (:
    Hopefully ill be fine!

Yeh it's one of those myths that alot of schools (mine too) seem to believe. It's an old fashioned idea that Medicine applicants must have Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths. The reality is that most places would be more happy to see English Literature than Maths.

Do the subject you feel you'll do best in!
