rubbish as level results

guys i need your help. im convinced that ive got bbcc with the c's in biology and chemistry. i didnt do any units in january and a family member died just before my first lot of exams - i found it so har dto concentrate. i remember sitting in my biology unit 3 exam for 20 minutes thinking about my aunt. the school applied for the special consideration but i dont think it was sucessful and now what shall i do. i am confident that i can get AAB minimum at alevel but am really worrid about my as results and my teachers are unlikely to predict me AAB based on this years exam performance because of having to resit as units whilst doing the a2s aswell but im so worried and i dont what ill do if i dont do medicine at uni. its been my dream but the exams went horribly and i dont what to do!

Relax! Don't panic! I know easily said than done, but you don't even know your results yet. Wait till tomorrow and find out what you have. I'm sure you'll be surprised. Good Luck for tomorrow.

Easier said than done, but don't panic! You don't know what you results are, so don't convince yourself that you must have done badly, it may be the opposite.

IF they're not quite what you expected, there is still hope. Even if you special circumstance thing doesn't go through, if your teachers know of your situation, they'll include it in your references, which the universities will note. As for predicted grades, it depends on how your place predicts them, mine predicted a grade up for A2, whereas others predicted the same grade. It'd be worth talking to your teachers about their predictions and explain your circumstances and see if they're willing to predict you what you need.

It is possible to resit AS modules alongside your A2s, i've done a couple to boost marks. My exams were spread out in January and June, which made the workload more manageable, but some places may do exams only in June, so check. If you do decide to resit, 3/4 modules should be your absolute maximum and no more, or else its too much. Also be discerning in which modules you resit that can give you the biggest boost in UMS. Something helpful about resits i found was that there were synoptic papers in A2 that required knowledge from AS, so it was a refresher.

Again, don't resign yourself to doom. I got ABCC in my AS, but managed to get an offer and (hopefully) get the grades, so its possible. You may find tommorow that you're pleasantly suprised. Good luck.

i think u have to be really honest with ureself as to why u got these results. if u know u didnt work ure hardest then u just have to work extra hard next yr and still aim for AAB-AAA. u can resit as modules without prejudice so dont worry. just means u wont hav much of a scocial life and will be under more pressure then most. but it is possible.

but if u tried ure best and still got those results (including a u in a chem module), then maybe ure pushing too hard? u cud find that ure more suited to the learning style at uni and u do amazingly at a degree. then wen u get results like BBB-BBC (which are still good), u can go to uni and do a biomed degree and apply as a grad. but dont kid ureself if u know u put 100% in and this is the result. sorry if that sounds a lil harsh

I'm in a similar situation to you sd91.I've managed to speak to someone at school and she advised that I resit the modules for the AS's in Nov/Dec whilst carrying on with A2's BUT don't apply to uni til 2010 and take a gap year instead and then apply with my A2 grades (she can't predict me AAB and my AS level results will look **** on the UCAS form. She also advised to still take the UKCAT for experience (booked for end of the month).School will stil act as my referee, help with PS etc.So in my gap year I will be doing all I can to strengthn my application by getting a health related job etc.She said I couldn't retake my AS year because I don't have a good reason why I messed up.Hope that hlps a little.
