    lactate threshold vs VO2max

    seriously, whats the difference?

VO2max = maximum consumtion of energy

lactate threshold = the point at which lactate pathway is being used

surely VO2max and lactate threshold are at the same point?

VO2max is the maximum consumption of energy? I don't quite see how that's related to lactate (or do you mean max of oxygen?)

Also if it does mean the latter, why would consuming a lot of oxygen relate to the point at which the lactate pathway is used :S.

    Sorry it's interesting!

I think V02max is the maximum oxygen supply rate to the muscles or the time at which you stop being able to sustain max.. hence it is the point at which lactate starts.

But not sure, it's not on my syllabus..

i was revising for my bio exam and was just momentarily confused

the VO2 max and lactate threshold are at the same point. VO2 max is the max consumption of oxygen before anaerobic respiration begins. lactate threshold is just when the lactate pathway has started, so same point, just differnent definition it seems

exam was wicked i wish chemistry was as easy!

the biology as were so easy this year.
i think because theyre doing a new sylabus nxt yr on our board, they just put a load of questions from old papers into one cuz they couldn't be arsed thinking of new ones.
I'm on OCR... the cardiac cycle question was stupidly easy... they gave you a diagram that pretty much gave away the answers...
