I agree with you Kiya.

Tamxxx; this is something I have noticed in many of your posts and that it appears you may want to study Medicine for the wrong reasons eg I recall you saying your parents will be angry with you if you dont go to uni or you think its either become a doctor or a cleaner. While I dont want to offend you, is an immature attitude. You are reluctant to resit a year which makes me doubt your motivation, people try to help you including myself on this forum and it appears you just disregard what they have said even if like myself they have spent 5+ minutes typing and researching a reply. All the unis you are applying to are the ones which are most appropiate to you, you didnt get As and Bs so these are the unis who you should be thankful are going to consider you. Because they will teach you at the level which is most appropiate to you. I am most sceptical about you applying to a "good" uni like Imperial in March as it is one of the most over-subscribed universities in the UK.Last edited by simisims; 07-10-2007 at 09:16 PM.

Hi, I know how you feel because I was in the same situation last year.
I was advised to apply for non medical courses and withdraw if my A2s were good enough for medicine. It was very upsetting at the time and I felt stupid, doubted myself etc. I worked hard, resat almost everything and ended up with AAA. I withdrew from my offer and am now applying for medicine.
It's not over - if you want to do it, you can!

Also - you don't have to apply to the unis your teacher suggested. If you don't like them, apply somewhere else! There are many good unis which don't have high entry requirements for some subjects and even if you don't have exactly the right grades, you could ask your teacher to give you a prediction to meet their requirements e.g. BBB and if you write a good statement, they may still consider you!

Tamxxx says that they acheived DDDE in their AS Levels. And that they have been told to apply to universities requiring around 200 UCAS points so thats the equivalent to CCC at A Level.

Tamxxx appears to have been predicted 200 UCAS points the equivalent to CCC at A Level. Most medicine courses require you to be predicted AAB/AAA. If Tamxxx decides they still want to study medicine it is likely they will have to apply either for 2009 entry or complete a degree and apply as a graduate later on.

Not to be negative, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most of these have local residence criteria, and I believe Tamxxx is in South London. TVU might be an option, though, especially if you've got your heart set on Imperial (though no guarantees).
But Tamxxx, looking through a few of your previous posts in other threads, it's really apparent that you have some talking to do with your parents. Seems like they're dead set on your doing medicine, not very clued up about your academic performance, and possibly the source of some of your odder ideas about what university you're prepared to go to. I feel you really need to level with them about what's possible and how panicked and pressured you're feeling, and also level with yourself a bit about the extent to which medicine is what *you* actually want, as opposed to what they've always made you feel is the plan for you.
Until you're clearer in your own mind about what you want, and why, and your parents are clearer about the current state of play, I really think your grades are the least of your worries.

Agree with you.

I think Tamxxx may not be eligible for any such courses.
Southampton, TVU and the Lincoln/Nottingham courses are not limited to local area but they are stringent about grades, i.e grade Bs in AS biology and chemistry or Cs at A2 in these subjects. The success rate for the TVU course is variable, Imperial sometimes dont take many sometimes they do. I have noticed at least someone very similar to Tamxxx posting threads very much like these on various forums. Basically if you will actually take this on board Tamxxx the general consensus is that:
1:No one applies for medicine in March, as it is extremely over-subscribed and rarely if ever participates in UCAS Extra or Clearing
2:Imperial is a *very* competitive university
3:You would need predictions of AAB/AAA
4:You most likely do not satisfy criteria for a foundation year course
5:You need to talk to your parents, career advisors, teachers and decide what you really want
6:Perhaps not apply for any university course this year
7:Perhaps you should think carefully before posting as sometimes you can come across as insulting, immature etcLast edited by simisims; 09-10-2007 at 03:14 AM.
