I would advice doing a degree that may help you as much as possible during graduate medicine (such as biomedicine etc.), not only the knowlegde but the skllls you learn will help you in a medical degree and may even give you an advantage if youve studied a particular area in more detail - (for instance learning about chemotherapy in detail may turn out to be a large advantage if you want to work as an oncology doctor), but thts not to say doing another one isnt very worthwhile. It could be good experiencing something non med related first.

    hiii...

i'm in year 13 right now, and contemplating whether or not to apply to medicine or leave it till next year

the thing holding me back is that i got a d in my chemistry as...i'm determined to get an a in my resits no matter what...my chem teacher however won't believe this (i can see her point of view) but i want to ask, what my chances would be with predictions of

AA and B/C (a's in bio and maths, and the b/c in chemistry)

do u think i should just apply for biomed or apply this year and see what happens?

i know chances are pretty slim...but i won't give up

also i want to apply to ucl/kcl/st.georges

Id advice you to apply, better to regret applying than regret not applying. Also an alternative to biomed is the clinical sciences course at bradford - its more clinical than biomedicine and there is a chance for some students to transfer into year 2 at leeds uni Medicine after the first year.

tami*, you should go for it and apply for medicine. Then work hard for good grades, if you get an offer this year, you'll be in and if you don't, you'll be in a good stance next year as long as you get AAB

If you've missed grades I would either:
    1. Go grad entry if you feel there's no chance of an interview/offer
    2. Apply anyway if you're just 'one off' - that's what I'm doing. I got AAC and am just one grade off their requirements - but will try anyway and go grad route if I don't get in.

    Hi every body,

can i take the oppertunity to add another issue into the dicussion.

i wanna be a doc like everyone else on planet earth

i have done my A Levels from UK

grades: AAAAc in biology, chem, physics, maths, (a level) and a c in as general studies.

and my secndary school from pakistan (SSC, also called matric)

    total marks : 674/850 =79% = an average of A
subjects; biology, chemistry, physics, maths, english, urdu, pak studies,
islamyat (70-90%). its concidered a high score in pakistan.

is anyone in a similar situation?
do i stand a chance of being treated in the same light as gcse student dudes

missing grades is not the end of the world, one of my friends missed his offer last year, he is going to resit and reapply.
just apply to some of the less reputable med schools and they are ok with resits

just out of interest, which of the med schools would you deem less reputable?

I have a friend who is resitting and reapplying. She rang one of the medical schools and they said they accept resit candidates. But I wouldnt class that med school as 'less reputable'.

Yeh when i was thinking of repplying i figured out that quite a few medical schools ( really good ones) accept retake candidates providing they get AAA and if they had extenuating circumstances around exam time....
The med skools that accpet retakes withouht extenuating circs i think are those that are said to be 'less reputable' although i dont think thats necessarily true!
This is just what i found after speaking to every admissions office of almost every medical school in the uk!!!
and because i didnt have extenuating circs (unfortuantley messing up big time isnt classified by med skools as extenuating ) i am now almost all the way through the first semester of my chemistry degree and have no regrets that i opted for grad entry!
