    Risingstar-

Last year I didn't get any offers for medicine, but did end up with AAB, so straight after opening my results envelope (and hugging friends lol) I called all medical schools in the UK (yes it took me over an hour to get through to them all). None had any available plaes except keele who said they would have considered me if I had called half an hour earlier! I wouldn't be surprised though if they are oversubscribed next year, cos of the situation they were in last.

ANYWAY lol if you do get AAB or above I would strongly advise you to take a gap year, get more experience, earn a bit of money and re-apply. You'll have a better chance of getting in, and, at least you'll be studying in a med school you chose yourself and that you'll be happy in, not one which had an extra place so took you on. (if you get what I mean?)

yeah most med schools have their own waiting lists (i was on one) so there are very rarely places left through clearing. there's no harm in going for it though, just make sure you ring very early. when i was applying through clearing that was about 7:30 in the morning.

you applied through clearing at 7:30??? I think my college receive the results a day before they give them to the students. n they give them to students at around 9am. is there any other way of getting results earlier? Thanks for your information too.

The reason i got them that early was because i was the only person in the 6th form that didn't have any offers and i wanted to get onto clin sci which was really competetive. (I was also paying £7000 a year to go to that school so whatever help you wanted they gave you) I was also very prepared.

But something not a lot of people know is the UCAS track is updated at one minute past midnight, or close to, on results day. so you can actually see if you've got your place or not before you go, in which case you know you will have got the grades. It won't say what you've got (like AAB) but it will say either unsuccessful or whatever it says when you get your place(i didn't get one so i don't know).

Yep definately, but I wouldn't advise you to apply with AAB, only if you get AAA. More importantly, do you have extenuating circumstances? If yes then just follow my advice above, but if not I'd recommend you email all UK med schools telling them abt your situation and ask whether they would consider you. I know of some medical schools which don't want to know why you didn't get there first time round. But yes, in whatever case, re-apply and brush up on your PS, try and get loads done before Oct 15th deadline too.

Oh, and you're welcome. I would have gone into more detail but have been up since 6am and hardly got any sleep last night! x

    Hi hope,
i e-mailed all of the medical schools last year. and i only got positive repied back from about 8 medical schools. 4 of these are the ones which i applied to that didnt require extenuating circumstances. my aunt died and my grandmother was diagnosed wth cancer. i was very close to them both, so thinking about them i didnt study hard enough. when i explained my situation they said that unless something happened to ME its not considered as an extenuating circumstance. so yeah...
if i do get an offer from lancaster uni for their pre-med course, and a rejection from keele, should i take on the pre-med course or apply through clearing for clinical sciences at bradford?

Ah I'm really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately this is medical school admissions for you - it's so competitive that they have to have such strict criteria, otherwise they would have to interview hundreds more!

Your question is a tricky one cos I hardly know anything about the pre-med course at keele... Will you definately be able to transfer to med school after it? What marks do you need? How hard is it? Oh and do you have an offer for that course? Maybe after you answer these questions I may have some kind of idea as to what I would do if I was in your shoes.

erm.. keele doesnt have a pre-med course.. does it? well, i dont know anything about it. :-s i applied for medicine at keele university, but have received nothing back form them.
i just had an informal interview at lancaster today. it went well. but if i get through this selection process they will invite me for a more formal interview later on....
after studying pre-med at lancaster (if i do get in :-s ) liverpool reserve 10 places for the students doing this course at lancaster. if we qualify for an interview, they will call us and if we pass that interview we can join 1st year of medicine at liverpool, or lancaster. i dont know how hard the course is. they said that it was the same course as the first year of biological sciences or something? i think we need at least 60% or be even considered at liverpool for an interview. im not entirely sure though.
I hope this helps you to help me!
    thanks!

Sorry I meant lancaster! I wasn't with it this morning! Don't worry about it yet though, cos you're still waiting for keele and they may still interview you.

The lancaster pre-med course sounds cool but there are only 10 places right.. do you know how many people they actually take on? I think that with the clinical science course you have much more of a chance, as they take on around 20 students to leeds, AND you go directly to Year 2 hence you haven't wasted a year. Although I guess the content may be a bit harder to grasp (and you need 65% + interview to transfer) but that's good in a way because then you will find out whether you really can cope with the workload at med school (year 1 of clinical science mirrors the course content at yr 1 leeds medical school). I'd recommend you apply for clinical science if you don't get the keele offer. Oh, and you don;t have to do it via clearing, it is best to (if you have no offers) apply via extra so they can interview you as soon as possible and you'll have more time to prepare yourself!

    Hope that makes sense!
