Unhappy Should I apply to medicine with AAB predicted grades?

i am currently coming to the end of year 12, i am contemplating whether to even think about applying for medcine with predicted grades AAB with the B being chemistry. I know how competetive it is, and my freinds who are also dream of being a doctor, are going to have AAA. I am just wondering how much of a disadvantage i am at with my current predicted grades compared to someone with AAA?

    please help!

    thanks!

There's nothing wrong with AAB predicted grades. Just look carefully at which uni's accept that and only ask for a B in Chemistry. It will be slightly easier for someone with AAA but with a blinder of a statement, decent experience and good UKCAT/BMAT you'll stand as much chance as anyone else.

thanks for the reply its helped my decision. I think i could persuade my chemistry teacher to predict me with an A. My only worry is that if i could get AAA predicted, and was lucky enough to get an offer of AAA, i dont think i would be able to pull it off. Does anyone happen to know the frequency of offers which are AAA? As i have only ever seen a few offered whereas it seems the majority of offers are AAB.

Can I ask, why are you only predicted AAB? Could it be that you could find another tutor that would predict AAA?

well the problem is that my chemistry teacher is my form tutor, at the start of the year, she had no faith in me and thought my plan to apply for medcine was far-fetchd. I have had to work hard to get back in with her. i belive i can persuade her to predict me with an A, so i would then have AAA for my predicted grades. I just dont know if that would mean any offers would be AAA, which even if i work as hard a possible, may still be very difficult to acieve.

Sounds like a good plan mate. I'm not sure, but from what I've read in peoples siggys with conditional offers.. the offers seem to be inline with whatever the universities minimum requirement is.

well, it wont matter as much about predicted grades once your results for AS levels come through; you'll then have (hopefully) 3 AS levels that reflect your predicted grades or maybe even AAA if you did well. that might persuade your chemistry teacher to predict you that A you need.
if you really want to apply to study medicine, then why not eh?
but once the results come through, if you do only get a B in chemistry, and your teacher wont budge, try looking through the unis for ones that will accept a B in chemistry.

Just to add, I was predicted AAAA but my offers have all been AAB (with only Leicester specifying an A in Chem). So even if you're predicted AAA, if you apply to unis that generally state AAB as their minimum (which is most of them with the exception of places like Oxbridge, Durham etc I think) you will be given that offer. If you're not confident of an A in Chem, make sure you look at unis which do not specify an A in Chem (from my choices, King's, Manchester and Barts).
