When yr actually at Med School, you find out that in the main, Chemistry isn't that important. Unfortunately for you, it seems to be essential to get an A-level in it to get past the admissions process...
What I don't really get is whether or not you just can't be bothered with it, or you think that it'll never make sense to you. If it's the case that however hard you work, you still don't seem able to get the understanding and the grades, then that's tough and I feel sorry for you, but there are still ways to get into medical school without A-level chemistry....
If you just can't be bothered with it....well, you need to learn that some things in life don't come that easily and you either see the value in working harder for them or you let them go.4th year Medic

Hey hun,
U sound @ the min like the thing u need 2 concentrate on is some TLC and relaxation rather than worrying about exams! I think its important u think about ur well being rather than ur application.
As people have said on here, there is really absolutely nothing you can do now until results come out and what will b will b, so best put it out of yr head as much as possible and concentrate on looking 4 ward 2 the summer holidays first. Also as some1 who has had 2 stay an extra yr @ sch ( I was ill during L6th) it really isnt so bad being with people younger than u. I am actually happier with the friends Ive made 2 yrs younger than me and a yr below me than I was with my own yr. And when u go 2 uni there will b people of all ages on ur course so its gd prep!
I had a difficult time during exams in L6th, it was when I started 2 get a lot worse health wise and I remember vividly going into my HOSF office and saying I need 2 chat, I think Ive just screwed up all my exams. And surprisingly it really helped just having some1 reassure me and talk through my options with me, and just 2b aware of what was happening 2 me. Mayb that is something that would help u? Not necessarily with a teacher but with a friend or something, some1 hu could b a bit supportive and give u good practical advice?
U could repeat the AS exams in A2 year, its certainly possible and it does have its advantages- like laughing @ the rest of ur class who r smarter than u frantically re revising AS synoptic work
but it does add a lot of stress and a lot of pressure. It really depends how many u r retaking.
It is never 2 late to enter medicine or 2 change ur attitude( well ok, mayb if you're like 80 or something) and there r so many people from so many different backgrounds who r proof of that. U have all the time in the world and trust me I kno it feels like you dont but you're still young. Ok so mayb u apply in Sept and u dont get an offer, worst case scenario, ( and its happened 2 me) but there r so many other routes u could go- gap yr and reapply, foundation course, access, GEP, something like bradford clinical sciences, work first uni later.
I think the reason u have the attitude u have which I believe u decribed as "lazy" from the sound of it is because u r feeling demoralised and low. Until August nothing can be done about the grades. But u can concentrate on the postive things about ur application, like the work experience side and u may find that is jst the motivation/self confidence booster u need. But u should also mak sure u r taking care of urself and that this exam thing isnt taking over ur thoughts bcos its not worth it and there are plenty of brilliant doctors who perhaps didnt get straight As first time round- my GP resat all her A levels! and Im sure u will b 1 of them.
Feel free 2 PM me if u want

How dare you accuse my beloved Chemistry of being irrelevant. The foundations of society as we know it, oh the world as we know it lies within my beloved chemistry! How dare you, peons, how dare you!!
I'm exaggerating my love slightly. But the scary thing is, only slightly.
I'm not sure why I do like chemistry. I reckon it's a bit to do with the fact that our ultra-cool-teacher-who-manages-to-make-chemistry-funny lets us do practicals every Friday as well. Also, I am a geek who loves to know about this world. Have any of you bought Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything? Surely that will get you more enthused.
I understand trying to be a doctor just for the sake of being a doctor, but where are you if you don't love the world we inhabit and are curious about it as well as our biological systems?
Anyway, bio does overlap with chem. What with the huge molecules, water's qualities (adhesive/cohesive, high heat capacity) and respiration/photosynthesis. There's a leetle bit of overlap there. Pharmacology as well, no? Compounds and their reactions!
Did you not do aspirin/ferrous selphate titrations? It's vaguely relevant.
It's difficult to study a subject that you do not love, especially for an end goal that you might not believe in. Have you done any work experience? This may make you more enthused about your chosen profession or healthcare in general.
There're people on this forum who have suffered a lot and managed to get there. There will be lows. But medicine is an unforgiving profession. You have to be strong, find a way and do it. You'll forget everything if you attain victory.
And, remember, there are other paths besides medicine and fate loves to play with our lives leading us to where we know not. All you can do is try until you're satisfied that's all you'll ask from yourself. (I wouldn't advise trying until you've stretched your limits, this will cause all sorts of negative mental consequences).
Now that we're done with reality. Focus on the positive! Chemistry can be fun, medicine is great, you can do anything with your life, you're young and smart, Biology is the best thing ever and everyone else can go to somewhere unspeakable if they imply otherwise.Medicine Application, 2007:
Barts and the London: FRESHER !!
You see my posts? You see them? This is what happens when you spend four years or so not saying what you're thinking. Especially when you like to. What happens is that everything explodes out of you in a propogating verbose horror that you cannot make yourself control. Don't let this happen to you, kids.

Thanks
i just need to be more positive, the worst thing is knowing that im capable of getting the grades, but just being motivated to put the effort, and try hard
This is the main thing with me, and thats what exactly my parents say i really want to do chemistry i do really find it interesting it just takes alot of time for me to understand the full concept, and thats why then i just kind of slag of, and end up getting bad grades. I want to change my attitude and i just hope its too not too late, because i did really want to carry chemistry onto A2, and if i have to drop it because of bad grades i will be regretting this for ever

Whatever u study there will be bits u find hard and bits that are ultra dull. Even when u go 2 medical school ur gunu find that u won't love every topic u learn about but that wont get u out of the sticky corner that u have 2 revise 4 it!
Have u tried writing down a certain time each day that u put aside 4 chemistry? I always find that having a revision time table which is there telling me at 6:00 I need 2 do 40min chemistry helps me 2 focus and get down 2 it. Also try breaking it down with biology which u say u enjoy. Say do 40min biology have a break then chem, then another 40min biology.
Would u b able 2 get some help with the harder bits? e.g. asking a teacher 2 go through it with u a bit slower or getting help from some1 in ur class. When I started this yr- Im doing AS and A2 chem in a yr and I went 2 the A2 classes I was dumb! But every1 was so nice 2 me and really helpful. Just the other day a lad from the A2 class who I'd never spoken 2 b4 helped me do a past paper question I was stuck on. Make the most of the resources available 2 u. I'd recommend chemguide online (put it in2 google) and also the Nelson Thornes revise 4 AS/A2 chem. They break it down really simply. Instead of seeing it as " Im gunu give up on this topic cos its hard and I dont really understand it" just think " every little extra fact I learn about this topic is gunu b a few more marks in my A level and a few steps closer 2 me being a doctor". Im a bit sad but sometimes I even find it helps me 2 write down my goals...or look through a prospectus of a uni that I really wana go 2. These kind of things give me the motivation with my revision. And as I say, I think work ex would help a lot, as well as boosting ur application, on a personal level in terms of helping u b motivated and giving u something 2 work towards and raising ur positivity.
