Hi, I am desperate to study medicine as it has been a life long ambition of mine to be an anaesthetist (don't ask me why lol). My GCSE grades were poor because I did no work (2 A's, 5 B's & 3 C's) and my AS grades were ABBC in sports studies, human biology, business and chemistry respectively. I have dropped business for A2 and my predicted grades for bio, chem and sports are AAB
Here comes the bad part...I could not get any spaces for the UKCAT exam thus making me ineligible to apply to many of the medical schools except for liverpool and birmingham - which I am going to apply for and am not expecting to get a place at either.
If I get AAB at A level, do you think I would have a good chance of gaining a place for 2008 entry after doing a year work experience, voluntary work and sit that damn UKCAT exam? I would also like to hear from people who have done a year out because they didn't get any offers etc.
Im doin a year out now. And yes i think its a good idea! If you want something really badly, why wouldnt you try every opertunity u have to get it? Theres never any harm in trying. As long as you get the AAB at A-level, and do plenty of w/e and voluntary and choose you unis wisely, you have as good a chance as anyone......
Well looks like God want's me to be a biochemist![/COLOR]
BTW, Bristol don't need UKCAT either, so that's 3 unis you can apply to.
And yep gap year would help if you don't get in, provided you do extra work experience to improve your application.

[JD forgets to tape the birth of Dr. Cox's Friend's Baby]
Cox: So, in other words there is no permanent historical record of the birth of my friend's baby.
JD: I think that the baby itself would serve as proof that it was.... you know.... born...
I was asked 'why not nursing' too - I had anticipated that question though and said something like I wanted to be more involved in diagnosis. I'm not sure I sounded v convincing though. I currently...
Interesting that you've said that, I was an HCA and am now a trainee biomedical scientist and they seemed really fixated on why I didnt want to be "just a nurse" or "just a BMS", and I felt like I...
Rejection also. I knew it was coming but until they send the letter theres that tiny bit of hope that everyone else was somehow worse than you! Let us know if you are successful at getting feedback,...
Sorry to hear that Profanius, chronomatic and ridders.
I know how disappointing it is to receive that email, especially after you think the interview went ok :(
