Thread: GEP - offers/rejections

You know what guys I've my dates totally mixed up. I didn't hear about being on hold until start of April and got offer for 5 year 3rd week in April. So it was a long long wait for me but it still had a positive outcome
Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.. Forget about the one's who don't.
Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it!!

Thanks Curly for all your info - definitely helpful :-)
I like Sunday mornings - it's the only morning when i don't have constant palpitations or need to run to the front door every few minutes to check whether post has arrived! The wait starts again tomorrow! - maybe we will hear something this week!! Good luck to all those others waiting

Hi Emily, I also had a rejection today.
I'm in the same boat as you, Leicester was my only interview. I'm absolutely gutted. I'm pretty darn sure we'll both make great doctors one day, so please don't even think about giving up!
UCAS 2011? BRING IT!!
I feel like we already have a slight advantage over the other applicants (experience of interview, already sat the UKCAT, sheer bloody determination, etc.) and I wish you the very best of luck.

Tigerlily, i'm sorry to hear about the rejection
I know it feels absolutely terrible - i just felt like crying all day
. It wasn't the first time applying for medical school for me - but it was my very first interview. I wish we could get feedback - my references could not have been better - i've got a good degree and an M.A. and loads of work experience in healthcare, and i worked so hard on my P.S. I know i will make a good doctor one day and i am sure you will too - i have no intentions of giving up! - hope to see you on these boards next time round!
I just qualfified as a mental health nurse (i did the pgdip after being rejected for med school) so i will work as a nurse for a year - maybe travel somewhere interesting - get a little more experience - and then - i will be ready for another round of med school applications
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do between now and the next application round

Wow Emily, you seem like such a strong applicant! I'm glad you can do nursing for a year, it's something very worthwhile and the experience will be perfect for next year's applications. Although I work full time in a hospital I'm going to try and focus on getting different types of shadowing this year, because I think that may have been a part of what let me down. We can sooooo totally do it! Are you going to apply to Leicester again?
Good luck hXc Medic, I hope you hear something soon!

Tigerlily,
THanks for your kind words
I wish we could get some more feedback so we know exactly which areas to improve in. I got the feeling that having just completed the nursing programme and not having worked as a nurse yet went against me - but i might be completely wrong. But anyhow - this year, getting experience as a qualified nurse might help my application - and i think perhaps i need to work on my interview skills - i was so so nervous and there wer so many things i should have said, but didn't - and things that i thought afterwards i maybe could have left out or said differently.
Sounds like you have a good plan
Are we allowed to reapply to Leicester despite being rejected after interview? I know some unis don't allow it. If it is allowed - yes, i will reapply there. I heard that Leicester value an arts background (my degree was in English/theatre studies and MA in English lit) whereas most other universities don't. I also did loads of science courses with the open uni after graduating because did not have science A-levels.
I know it doesn't feel good to have al rejections - but lets hope that next time round will be better for both of us
