This is what i've heard anyway and is part of the reason i wanted to apply to leicester as it would mean i would hold 9/10 for academic and UKCAT marks which i hope would stand a good chance of gaining an interview.
The a-level requirement for each banding is actually CCC or above. Straight from Dr. West. So a 1st with CCC = 5.

No worries 00febiva. And yeah I'm pretty certain big2cats. I emailed the medical school shortly before I applied asking about the academic banding, because as I'm sure you've noticed, the information provided on the website is pretty sparse. And Dr. West sent me Leicester's full admissions procedures which included this:

For graduate applicants we use the following scoring system:-

5 First predicted or achieved with A levels of CCC or above

4 First predicted or achieved with lower A level grades

    OR

Upper second with A levels of CCC or above

3 Upper second with lower A level grades

Candidates with lower degree classifications will not be considered.

I don't know why they couldn't just print this on their website so people could make an informed decision about whether to apply or not, but there you go. Some of the med schools seem determined to make the whole process as difficult as possible.

Anyway good luck with your applications.

I have a 2.1 and poor a-levels (which i did over 10 years ago) but i also have an MA and have completed several open uni courses (and got high grades in each) and i have almost completed a postgrad nursing course .... so for those of us that don't have the usual qualifications, do they still use the same system?? I only got 605 for UKCAT. My reference is good ... and i worked really hard on my PS and have a lot of work experience. Do i stand a chance??

emily_1978 theres no point worrying about your application know it will just cause you extra stress. If your are unlucky enough to get rejected from your choices, which of cause you have as much chance as any one else on here to get an offer, just phone admissions to ask whether there were any parts of your application which could have been better. Theres nothing you can do now and no-one but the leicester admissions really know what deserves 3,4 or 5 in their points system so just wait and see and don't worry.

Last year it was 16/20 for interview, I don't know if it's changed, though.
