Frequently asked Questions

I just read on the link below that leicester doesnt consider AS resit applicants....I am currently doing A2 and I was just wondering if this refers to people that have finished their alevels and are now resitting or those of us currently doing january resits? if it is the latter then I believe I just got my first rejection

resits always means people who resit a whole year, i.e take 3 rather than 2 to do Alevels. The unis have no way of knowing that you`re doing AS resits and wont discriminate against you if you do.

I wouldn't worry, I think it just refers to people who are doing the whole of their AS year again. Many people do resit modules, so I don't think it refers to that. Glasgow are the only one I know who don't allow module resits.

Having said that, they do look negatively at resits:

"We are not always informed when candidates resit modular assessments. We do not, therefore, penalise those candidates who are honest enough to tell us.

You should remember, however, that medicine is an academically demanding subject. If you need to resit modular examinations to reach the required grades you should give serious thought to your choice of course." (Part of an e-mail I got from Leics)

But don't worry too much, I am also resitting modules in January

Damn it - me and my slow typing. The above posters made the same point as me regarding the AS resit year thing.

Haha, I remember them saying that thing about "seriously considering your ability to do medicine if you have to do resits" when I went for their focus on medicine day in June. I was like "aaaaah".

But that said, I'm still retaking FP1, the biology coursework module (i.e. I'm resubmitting my coursework because both my teacher and I think it was worth a higher grade than it got, and I muffed up the Practical Review Paper) and probably both chemistry exam papers.

And maybe physics mechanics, because I might then be able to bump my grade up to a B because I hate having that C and D on my AS results.
